Love the scent!
This shampoo bar smells great! When I first opened the container, I could smell it in my bathroom when I walked in a few hours later. It comes with a mesh bag so you can hang the bar after using it so it will dry. It seems to have many ingredients that will help strengthen the hair. I will say that after using it I felt like I needed a conditioner. I like to try new shampoos without a conditioner first to see how the actual shampoo works but I had to use a little conditioner with this. I still had a hard time combing my hair out. Much more than I usually do. So I’ve used it only once and will continue using it but I think I will use a heavier conditioner when I do. Positives: scent, easy to use, lathers easily, ideal for traveling, good ingredients, the company is cruelty free. Negatives: I felt like I needed a heavy conditioner after using. I’m not sure this shampoo bar is really beneficial for my hair type.

NOT For All Hair Types – Very Drying
The small, shampoo bars lather well and have an okay scent. They are not for color treated hair. After shampooing with this black rice, shampoo bar, my hair was left very dry, matted and tangled. The black color and lather of the shampoo bar made my blonde hair look dingy. My hair was a total mess. I had to shampoo a second time with a high-end, Japanese shampoo to bring moisture back into my hair and to be able to finger comb. I followed up with two, high-end conditioners to further repair the damage from this black rice, shampoo bar. I then tried using it as a body soap. The shampoo bars are black, and they turn everything black including my pink, mesh body scrubber. It left my skin very dry and in need of extra oils and moisturizers. I gave up and tossed the shampoo bar in the trash.

Great smelling and great cleaning shampoo bar with a subtle coloring effect.
In short, this is a very nice shampoo bar. It smells great, lathers and cleans well and even comes with a soap (or in this case shampoo) saver mesh bag. Drawback are that the cleaning effect can be stripping, and it might stain (color) your soap dish. A more detailed review follows.My two-pack came inside two Happy Innocent metal screw-top canisters (2.75” in diameter by 1” thick) that were shrunk wrapped together. Inside each canister was the shampoo bar and a shampoo saver bag. Main ingredients are list on the back of each canister: olive oil, coconut oil, glycerin, black sesame powder, black rice water, vitamin E, sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate [a surfactant], sodium lauroyl glutamate [a biodegradable surfactant], essence. In my opinion those are pretty simple and natural ingredients.Each shampoo bar is cellophane wrapped inside the canister. The bars are actually puck shaped, about 2.5-inches in diameter and three quarters of an inch thick. The pucks are a charcoal gray color with white specs. Out of the canister they smell absolutely wonderful. I am not sure of the exact scent but I do detect rose essence.Directions are to wet your hair and the shampoo bar then apply the bar (in the saver-bag or not) to your hair. In my experience the initial application didn’t lather super-well and it takes a second application to lather and clean well. The lather isn’t much different than any other shampoo. The foam is white and the shampoos essence can easily be smelled. The shampoo rinses away clean but it can leave your hair stripped so I found a conditioner is absolutely required. Also I didn’t notice much scent left on my hair after shampooing—my hair just smelled clean.The anti-gray effect of the shampoo bar isn’t super-apparent at first, but there is a subtle coloring effect that turned my white hair gray and my gray hair charcoal. If you were to leave this shampoo in a soap dish that intent might be more obvious and the black colored components will color (stain) your soap dish black or gray.Overall, I liked the simple ingredients, easy storage, how it smelled, how it cleaned and the mild colorant effect. I can accept the draw backs: it can strip hair and it can color a soap dish or tub black. I’ll rate this four-and-a-half stars, which I round up to five stars.

Happy Innocent 2-Pack Rice Water Shampoo Bar
This shampoo bar did not meet my expectations for improving my hair’s condition; ultimately, it did nothing beneficial for my specific hair type or goals.However, I must acknowledge that the product is incredibly easy to use and lathers up devently well. The bar itself has an good scent, which was one of the better aspects of the experience. Furthermore, it truly cleans my hair effectively.The packaging includes a small mesh bag in each tin, which is a thoughtful addition intended to prevent the bar from slipping during use.In summary, despite its cleaning power, lather, and pleasant fragrance, the product simply failed to provide any positive results or noticeable changes related to hair growth or texture for me.

After two uses can see results!!!!!Warning, the shampoo will dry your hair out. However, I just use a spray leave in conditioner and my hair is fine. I have very fine thinning hair. I can’t wait to see after regular use what will happen. The possibilities are there…I stopped coloring my hair a few years ago because, I felt the coloring was part of the thinning. My hair grows fast so I was having to color every 3 weeks to keep the roots in check. I’m so happy for this alternative.

Cleans my hair well but didn’t treat or prevent the grey
So I have been using this for a little over a week now. Full disclosure, I’m 44 and starting to get grey hair. I have light brown hair. I previously have been using a grey reducing shampoo about every other day to keep my grey hair at bay but stopped using that about 2 weeks ago. When I started using this I was starting to see some grey come back but now I can barely see any grey at all.This feels kinda like a soap and lathers similarly. Except the lather is grayish at times, and I think the dark part dyes your hair to hide the grey. It cleans my hair really well and smells nice. It comes in a metal tin with a bag. I’ve been leaving it in the bag with the tin open, and when I lift the bag with the hair soap, there are black marks underneath from the black coloring in the soap bar. It looks like this is keeping my grey at bay because I have a big grey patch that comes out quickly and my sides are short so it shows quick as hair grows out. I’ll keep using this for now but will update if I have to go back to my grey reducing shampoo.Edit 3/17/25: after another 10 days of using this I can definitely see grey hair coming back. My big patch at the top of my head is grey again but also the new hair coming in at the sides (I have short hair on the sides but from the root to the tip is grey. My sides are normally shaved with a #1 guard so had to grow a bit to notice the grey. This isn’t a bad shampoo and works fine cleaning my hair. It just is not preventing or treating the grey despite being advertised as a grey reducing shampoo.

Smells wonderful, cleans super well.
I really like this shampoo bar. It’s so easy to use. It lathers up so well and it does have a grey tint to it when using. It smell absolutely fantastic and it really cleans my hair so well. In fact yesterday after shampooing and then rinsing, as I was squeezing the water out of my hair, I could actually hear it squeak. I always thought it was a joke when I head the phrase “squeaky clean”, but it’s true with this.It left my hair very soft and full of body and that’s important to me as I have very baby fine hair.I will add however, that I didn’t notice any change to my grey areas and to be honest, I really don’t have much faith that it can reverse my greying hair or stop continued greying. Regardless, I love it and likely will reorder this again. My husband likes it too.I love that it doesn’t come in a wasteful plastic container and the tin it comes in, is reusable for lots of other purposes.It also comes with a small mesh bag in each tin, and would be great to keep the bar from slipping out of your hands while in use, but I chose not to use it and will repurpose it to use with a bar of body soap instead.

Smoothening with light tint
I like that these come in their own reusable tins and they have a fluffy soap scent. Each shampoo bar comes with a soap saver bag inside as well. This isn’t needed though because it has a great deal of lather on its own as well as a slight black tint to the shampoo as well. It won’t linger for very long but it does have a nice tent to it and it has a smooth soft feeling after use as well.
