These U-shaped metal hair pins are a little bigger than the palm of my hand, and boy are they tough! I can whip my hair up into something looking decent without even looking. Putting it up into an elegant style takes only moments, and no styling product necessary. I have very long, very thick, wavy hair – these hairpins hold it all with ease, and that’s no easy task. I’ve put weight and stress on these with only minimal bending. I can pull off even the tightest hairstyles easily and they hold tight enough for an all-day style. I don’t get it right on the first try every time, but I think that’s just part of using a hairpin instead of other methods. (Maybe that’s just me, I haven’t been trained in hair wrangling.) I especially like that this set comes with both a gold and a silver option. Both colors are so versatile and really do go with everything. I think that these are pieces that will serve for a very long time, and they’ll never go out of style. I think this is good value for the price, in fact I’ve come back and picked up another set because I know I will eventuall lose one or both in my house clutter, and the thought made me a little sad.

Strong hair pins great for long thick hair
These hair pins are heavy duty and large enough to hold a lot of hair. My hair is considered very thick for someone of European descent. It currently falls around the middle of my back and these pins hold it up with no problem. They do have some “heft” to them. For me that’s both a pro and a con. It means they do add to the weight as you pin your hair up. As someone whose “hair hurts” after wearing it up a while, these pins add to that. If you’re like me and headbands, sunglasses, nighttime-eyemasks, etc., “hurt” your head then these will too.On the other hand, it’s a pro–I can’t imagine how you could break these while using them as intended. They are strong, have a little flexibility, and will not break while you’re shoving them through a thick twist of hair. At many points in my life, I’ve loved using the large plastic combs meant for holding hair in place. But I am constantly breaking their tines while simply trying to slip them into my thick hair. You won’t have that problem with these.

High quality hair pins
These are great! I received 1 gold and 1 silver pin, and both are nicely finished, and have a good weight. They feel high quality. I have never worn a hair pin like these before, but they were surprisingly simple to use. I wrapped my hair up in a bun, and just slipped the pin down through the bun, snug against my head. I put it up a couple of hours ago, and it has held well, and still feels comfy. This is a major improvement over the claw clip, as I was able to do school pickup and lean my head back against the headrest with no discomfort. I love these, and will be using them daily to keep my hair back out of the way. I am sure I can use them to make a more attractive style, but these are great for everyday as well. Love them!

Very slippery and heavy – – won’t stay in my hair at all
These are very sturdy, well-made, hair pins, but they don’t stay in my hair at all. I’ve tried several different styles, but none hold with these hair pins. Very disappointed. It’s strange, too, because I usually have great success with most hair accessories.
