    I ordered this because I keep my hair up for work most days and my old foam bun shapers had gotten ratty and flat and I wanted a fresh set without spending much.The set comes with four pieces in different colors and the sponge material is soft enough but feels pretty thin and lightweight in a way that reads cheap rather than compact. The outer fabric has a slight texture to it but the seams on two of the four pieces are already coming loose after a couple of weeks of use and one of them has a small tear near the edge where the fabric meets the sponge. The foam inside compresses easily and does not spring back the way it should so the shape gets uneven and the bun ends up looking lopsided by midday.My hair is medium thickness and I have to wrap it a few extra times to get the bun to sit right and even then it tends to slide by afternoon. The colors are fine and do coordinate well with most of what I wear but that is kind of the least important part when the construction is falling apart this fast. My cat has already batted one of them under the couch and honestly I am not sure it is worth retrieving.

    Cute hair accessories, but high learning curve to use them

    These french hair twist tools are very cute, though they definitely have a bit of a learning curve to them. You get four hair tools, blue, ivory, pink, and black in a super cute floral design. The set comes with instructions on how to make a basic bun with the tools, though I thought the instructions could’ve been more detailed and specific. There aren’t any additional instructions for any other types of hairstyles, so it takes some trial and error to figure out other ways to use them.As far as the bun goes, that was easy enough to do. I found it easiest to put my hair in a normal pony tail, so a hair tie could be doing the bulk of the work to keep my hair secure. Then I fed the ponytail through the hole in the middle of these twist tools and rolled my hair up into a bun and twisted the tool to secure it into place. There’s a thick wire or something inside that’s meant to keep everything secure, though I’m not sure how well it would secure my hair if I didn’t already have a hair tie in place. One other pony style I did with these was just putting my hair in a ponytail and wrapping the tool around the pony to give a cute bow look at the top, which I also liked.Overall, I like these, but I don’t know that they really work well on their own. I have long and thick hair, and these aren’t going to hold my hair up on their own for an entire day without me having other hair tools to keep my hair secure. I also wish these were a little bit longer, as I have long/thick hair and I feel like these aren’t long enough to provide enough coverage, nor be able to twist quite right for enough security. I’ll still be using these as a cute hair accessory, but I’m just not sure they work as well as they could on their own.

    Strangely complicated

    First of all, this is listed as a “French Twist Hair Tool” and there are zero instructions for how to make a french twist. Only a bun.I’ve been a bun maker since high school. I prefer my hair up, and a fast bun is the fastest way to get it done. I enjoy trying new tools to make my buns look more professional and less “I woke up with five minutes to get to work”. I love the look of these, the print is pretty for something that will peek out upon completion.However. Why does this need to be so complicated? Slide your ponytail through an opening, then slide the tool to the end of your hair – making sure you don’t go down far enough for the hair to slip out, or stop too short and have a lot of hair still to go – and roll it up towards your head. Making sure the hair stays against the tool and doesn’t slip out the sides. Then fold and tuck the ends in. Well, actually the instructions say “tie the ends”, which I’m not sure whose hair they were aiming for, but I can’t tie these ends and just had to “bread tie” them.And when all is said and done, it feels less secure than when my 6-year old niece puts my hair in a bun. Maybe two hours later, the bun is falling apart.I will keep trying to see if I can make it more sturdy, but a bun shaper never needs to be this complicated.

They have a pretty, small floral print that looks nice and coordinates with many different outfits. It is usually hard to find hair accessories that match navy clothing, so having that color included is helpful. The tools are made of a soft sponge material that is comfortable against your head and holds long hair well, even if your hair is almost thigh-length.These shapers are easy to use as long as you put your hair into a smooth ponytail first. If you try to roll your hair without a ponytail, the pieces will end up tight in some spots and loose in others, which makes the bun look messy and not in a good way. Once your hair is in a ponytail, you just roll the tool from the ends up to your head and twist the two wire ends together like a twist tie. One of these clips held a high bun securely on top of my head all day without slipping. This set offers good value if you want a simple way to make a neat updo on a budget.
