    The Best Relaxer for Me

    I’ve had relaxers since I’ve been seven years old. I didn’t realize until I used this relaxer that my hair was breaking off due to the strength of various relaxers. Hairdressers would blame me for not “taking care” of my hair when in reality their switching relaxers because they ran out of a particular brand or just wanted to see what the next one would do resulted in my hair damage and breakage!I finally found a hair dresser who listened to me when I told her relaxers literally BURNED my scalp. I’ve been in the salon chair with chemical burns oozing white blood cells down the sides of my face. The hairdresser found this relaxer. This hairdresser also did the switch a roo one day–I didn’t realize at that time I’d be in for damaged hair. So after the switch I told her “If you don’t have this relaxer and I schedule an appointment I’ll come back & wait until you do have it.” Thanks to Amazon I can now buy this relaxer and straighten my hair in the comfort of my own home. This relaxer is expensive if you follow all 4 (I believe there are 4) steps. Even if you pay $100 for the whole kit in my area that’s well worth the 9 applications. My hair dresser charged $50 – maybe even $55 for a relaxer every 4 weeks.My hair isn’t perfect and still does break off around the edges but I have a full head of hair that’s longer than it’s been before and I don’t have to deal with the emotional trauma of trying to find another hair dresser who does Black hair who will listen to me and use the product I need. I don’t have to worry about going to a salon where I’ll be disrespected and abused literally.The only down side to using this relaxer is your hair may have a coarser texture. If you really enjoy and need your hair to be silky straight you may not like this relaxer. I simply want my hair not to be in it’s natural kinky fro state and this relaxer takes care of that for me.

    Avlon Affirm Relaxer – with Fiberguard

    I used to travel back and forth between Canada and USA…let me tell you it is DIFFICULT to find Affirm in Canada, where as it was cheap and easy to find in Brooklyn, lol. Ever since my sister introduced me to Affirm, I have been a true and almost loyal user. I really believe this type of relaxer (which I feel is milder on my hair) has been the true reason my hair has stayed healthy – and yes, I choose to relax my hair as opposed to going natural (tried natural, but it just wasn’t for me)and I have no regrets or hair damage as a result .

    Application was easy and the self mix means you have control of the strength of the relaxer.

    This was my first purchase of this relaxer so I purchased the mild relaxer. I had worn my hair in braids for a year growing out my hair. I mixed the ingredients as per the package and the result on my thick, virgin growth of 1 year was better than i expected. I didn’t leave the perm on longer than the time it took to process through the entire head of hair. (I did not keep it on until it burned)Result… Straight, manageable hair that will take and hold a curl. I am very impressed with the product. Also, there was NO overly toxic, chemical smell that had to be aired out of my hair. One month later my hair is still manageable and soft and no split ends.I’m a fan.

    This can help save your hair, scalp and your mind!

    Great if you are just looking to texturize. I guess all chemicals cause damage but, I have yet to find it. I use on my daughter who has extremely course dry, kink coil patterned, super thick and long (to her waist!) African American hair that will dred even with the most diligent care! She is 8 and started getting this and only this relaxer at 7. People may judge and say she is getting it done too soon but, you have never seen the horrible of her hair grooming without! Anyone walking by would want to call the cops if they heard her blood curdling screams! Every time her dad would see me getting ready to do her hair he would leave the house! He couldn’t bare to see or her his precious daughter’s torment!In short this helps relieve a lot of stress for everybody! Even though I only relax for mild every 10 to 12 weeks (she is a child after all!) I don’t think even regular would get you bone straight. If you need pin straight you must use heat. I follow all the steps and use all suggested affirm products only! Then I heat protect and blow dry. We are not interested in pin straight hair. This calms and softens the strands just enough for easier management.

    I like that you can adjust the strength…..

    Used it once. Didn’t burn and straightened very well. I like that you can adjust the strength from mild to resistant. I read some of the reviews here and thought it would not be strong enough, so I went to resistant. Next time, I’m going to do normal or maybe even mild. My hair was too straight. Love this.Update: Have been using this since last year and will never use another relaxer again. I’m so happy to finally find the one best for me.

    This stuff is so gentle on hair, doesn’t even have that death of your natural hair chemical poison smell. It’s super gentle, maybe too gentle if you are looking for poker straight. I didn’t want poker straight completely limp hair. I wanted an easier time combing thru my hair when detangling and deciding to where it straight.I used Affirm products years ago with my beautician and when I moved away couldn’t find them anywhere for over a decade until now on Amazon. This was a good deal for the price, came with like 2 years worth of relaxer for me considering how often I plan to relax which is only 3-4 times a year. Each relaxer is so tiny that for me, I need two and use every drop, but my hair is super thick and coily.If you don’t want overkill or damage to your hair, this is the way to go.

    Great!!!

    This is a gentle, smoothing, and effective relaxer. I am so happy with the results! My hair is long, very textured and difficult to categorize/type. I have been doing my own hair after being frustrated with harsh salon treatments. I found that many stylists approach any Afro texture with unnecessary harshness that many cannot withstand. I texlax and use olive oil as my relaxer base. I typically use ORS olive oil relaxer at home. I like that one as well. I decided to give this a try I am very pleased with the results.
