Almost As Sharp as a Feather Blade and Get Sharper With the 2nd and 3rd Shave
There is a blog called The Refined Shave that has tested and rated numerous double-edge razor blades. He created a jig to hold that blade and then put a media to cut on a postal scale. He measured the pressure necessary to cut the media and then did it again after the first and second shaves. As it turns out, some blades with a coating actually get sharper as the coating wears off. The Bic is one of those. It starts almost as sharp as the expensive, Japanese-made Feather blades but, unlike the Feather which dulls a little with each use, the Bic Chrome Platinum gets sharper. Losing the coating does seem to make it lose a bit of smoothness, as well, but it is just as efficient on the 2nd and 3rd shave as the 1st. I used one a 4th time and got a close shave, but it wasn’t as comfortable so, for me, I’ll be using the Bic blades for three full shaves and change it. I paid about $0.60 per blade for a 50-pack for the Feather blades and $0.20 for a 100-pack for the Bic blades, so I doubt I’ll buy feathers again at about 3 times the cost. If you don’t buy in bulk, the cost per blade can skyrocket. The Feather IS a great blade and I got great shaves with it in a vintage Gillette Fatboy and a Merkur 34C. The 34C with a really sharp blade is a great combo because the razor is very mild with very little blade exposure and a sharp blade improves efficiency. I have now used the Bic in the Gillette Fatboy and a Yaqi Final Cut, which is the most aggressive razor I have. I get a BBS shave from the Yaqi with a Bic Chrome Platinum, but you must be careful and let the blade glide over your skin and use very little added pressure. Going slow and not pressing down seems to be the key with aggressive razors that have a lot of blade exposure. So, right now my favorite blades are:1. Bic Chrome Platinum for its sharpness, longevity, and price ($0.20/blade)2. ASTRA Superior Platinum for a decently sharp blade for only about $0.09 blade3. Feather is you want a super sharp, super-efficient blade and you don’t care about the price ($0.60+)The only other blade I’ve tried so far is a Rockwell and that one isn’t as sharp as the ASTRA and costs twice as much at about $0.17/blade. Try the Bic Chrome Platinum. I think you’ll be happy.

No other compares in longevity!
I like to shave everyday with an occasional skip a day maybe once a week. My whiskers are not heavy.1. Was a novice to DE shaving & started with a Henson blade that comes with their mild razor. The razor type must be mentioned too in all fairness as different razors are more aggressive based on setting & type.Being new to DE I would get multiple cuts unless I was very careful and even then my face still felt very raw.I would get one day, maybe two before the blade got too dull to cut without rash.I was a bit frustrated with needing so many passes with a Henson mild + razor that requires strict 30 degree angle or it doesn’t cut well, that I bought their more aggressive medium ++ razor which did a little better but still left my face feeling not happy. “also 30 degree angle required” but the blade protrudes out more with the medium ++ version. In summary, didn’t like Henson blades.2. Next I tried Feather blades from Japan since they were supposed to be the sharpest.Much better on my face but also had to be quite careful not to get nics.It too was only good for one day and two was pushing it.I conclude since these blades are very thin & flexible if you don’t keep the angle very shallow they will grab a hair or whisker and flex causing scraping or even digging in to the skin causing a nic …just a theory I surmised after trying my next blade which were thicker “Kai’s”.In summary, the Feathers still were not kind to my face but better than Henson blades.3. After more research I decide to try Kai Stainless Steel blades also out of Japan. They were thicker & I think as sharp as Feathers but a tad cheaper in price….The thicker blade made it easy to “feel” the whisker to know when all stubble was gone and they did a better job with one pass imo. However they too were best the first day & didn’t do as well past two days.In summary Kai blades were favored more than Henson or Feathers due to having same Feather sharpness but a firmer blade that was more stable while cutting.4. After more research I found BIC Chrome Platinum. They are supposed to have some kind of coating that allows them to get sharper with each use as the claim says. After trying them I’m truly amazed at their performance! They seem sharp yet forgiving with only occasional nics if I get too fast & careless.Rather than one or two days, I found they were still sharp after 7 days of shaving & it wasn’t until the 8th day before I decided to switch to a new one!I still got that excellent close shave that 8th day but it was starting to take longer to achieve it and I started feeling abrasions around the neck in the hard to get areas….time to give it up & change the blade!Quite phenomenal results!I did flip the blade after the 6th day but not sure I could tell a deference as it was cutting fine before that too.It may be worth noting if you do not fully tighten your handle the blade definitely won’t cut at the right angle and will tend to scrape more than cut. I found that out when I forgot once to fully tighten between shaves as I do always loosen my handle to allow it to breathe while not in use.Considering the price the Bic’s being very competitive in price in the first place, these are a heck of a blade that I highly recommend trying.I like that “smooth as a baby’s butt” feel when I’m done. The DE shaving experience makes it where my face is still smooth into the evening & not till the next morning do I start to feel stubble. The Bic blades give me the longevity of multiblade razors without the price and shave closer!I now actually look forward to shaving!A nice preshave oil gets the whiskers to stick out pretty so they’re exposed, then some nice lather makes then vulnerable to being whacked straight to the bottom to leave nothing but skin. It’s a rewarding experience and as with any skill you get faster & faster with skill which in turn leaves your face happier with less trauma. An “Alum” bar to finish is great too!It will seal off any tiny nics and it also helps teach you where you’re still causing skin trauma as it will burn a tad going over any raw spots.I do a shower shave. It wastes more water but less messy than over the sink imo.Great youtube videos out there to watch to get a jump on DE technique if you’re thinking about it..remember you don’t flex your wrist like with flex head razors but you maintain angle & move your whole arm.Analyze the razor angle of your shaver to get the best cut “with handle fully tight” and let the razor cut the hair nice & low like a lawn mower blade rather than scraping your skin.It will probably be about 20-30 degrees.Almost no pressure is needed with good blades so less skin trauma and no ingrown hairs.

Better than Feather!
These razor blades are incredibly sharp, just a hair underneath Feather in my opinion. They have a Teflon coating, which make them very smooth, and helps them last for multiple shaves as well. These actually get sharper after first use. I can’t explain how much of a “bang for your buck” these blades are!! Plus, these DO NOT have any glue or wax dots! These will be my razor blades of choice from now on, and I couldn’t be any happier! Thanks BIC!

For me a great blade
First off I fell everyone should note what is said in all DE Blade reviews but at the same time take it all with a grain of salt. By that I mean anyone who has been wet shaving with DE razors for a decent length of time should know that DE blades are very subjective to each individual. So many things come into play. The individual user and their technique of shaving, the save soap or lubricant, the razor it self. An individual might like a bade in one DE razor but might not be happy with results of the same blade in a different razor. All this has been said for those newer to DE shaving.Last year sometime I stumbled across an article on a lot of different DE blades with sharpness testing new out of package and then after a set amount of use (don’t remember the specific criteria and have not been able to find the article again) this bic blade rated pretty high on out of package sharpness and one of the highest on remaining sharp at the end of wear testing. Naturally Feather blades were sharper new but the bics rated sharper after the wear test. For me Feather is actually to sharp in my Aylsworth but ok in my Feather razor. As for me personally I think I love this blades, at least in my Aylsworth Apex Ti. Haven’t tried this blade in any of my other razors yet and who knows I might not like the blade in them.A little background. I’ve been wet shaving over 40 years the first 12 to 15 was with a straight razor but then as my face and skin changed I switched to DE and love it. I admit I have a light beard, I can grow and have had a thick mustache and goatee but not a full face beard so there you know what I’m able to share about these blades and what I base it on.

Smooth comfortable shave with no razor burn
I change blades after each shave and these blades give a very nice comfortable shave with no razor burn. They are plenty sharp and I am able to get a close shave with just a pass and a half. I usually shave with the grain for my entire face and the half pass is across the grain in the usual problem areas of the neck, chin and lips. Highly recommended.

Classic and Effective
A close shave with a classic blade at a fair price.

Excellent blades!
I’ve been using these blades for quite some time now and by far these are my favorite. I use them with my Leaf razor. I’ve tried just about every brand on the market for the closest shave, and these fit the bill. Quality of manufacturing has been very consistent with any pack I’ve opened and they stay sharp through multiple shaves and I’m a woman who full body shaves, so they genuinely do stay sharp for long! I’ve had no irritation with these, and get a consistent shave with whatever soap I use. I hope they keep making these because they are the best!

Good value not great sharpness.
Don’t get me wrong, they’re sharp enough to do what you need to do, but feather high stainless is better.
