Inspect carefully! But a great shaver

The box was pristine, but the shaver arrived damaged. When I pulled it from the box, the foil head already had a hole in it. Amazon is sending me a new one and I expect it will be fine, but I’ll hold off on a full review until then. I guess the fault is the manufacturer and not Amazon. Still, disappointing when a product is damaged before I even open the box.Update: the replacement shaver arrived in perfect condition and provides a great shave (as usual, Amazon makes returns and replacements easy). It replaces an old Braun Series 5 that I had for almost 20 years. I was really happy with the Series 5, but the new Series 8 is smoother and shaves closer. If this one lasts half as long as my last one, it will be well worth the price. Upgraded rating to 5 stars.

From an Engineer: Lasted 13 months. Poorly engineered. Pass on this product.

This expensive “shaving system” lasted almost exactly 13 months prior to failing. To be frank, I should have returned it after I first examined it but I decided to give it a chance and there was great hope I would come to enjoy the product. So, to the most important point…how does it shave? The short answer is that it is just okay. It is no better or worse than other electric razors I’ve owned. It is not as close as a bladed razor. You will likely find you still need a cheap bladed razor to clean up the areas the electric simply cannot access; under your nose, ears, against your ears and below sideburns, etc. A couple of quick swipes will usually finish the shave.Since, like most men, I shave in the shower you have to expect any shaver will be totally waterproof. It seems this one is not. My failure after 13 months was likely due to either a microprocessor failure or water intrusion. My guess? An electrical failure due to water intrusion. In any case….it slowly died after mysteriously “locking” itself into travel mode for no reason. It finally failed to charge or operate. I verified the charger was providing the proper voltage.Now let’s discuss the Cleaning Station. As an Engineer (both mechanical and electrical) I can assure you this part of the product line would not pass muster for a first year graduate class in any engineering school. The design is terrible with no thought given to the interaction between the way the razor is intended to be charge and cleaned. You find you must purchase their (somewhat) expensive cleaning pods that fit the machine. These seem to contain a small amount of alcohol, probably a bit of glycerin, and some fragrance. The cleaning cycle causes the inverted shaving head to operate while gently flushing the cleaning solution around the shaving head. Essentially is does nothing but make the shaving head smell better by application of light fragrance. To properly clean the had you must manually pinch and remove the removable screen. This process is extremely difficult if the shaver is wet and you are in the shower. Again, poor design and and engineering fail.All-in-all this is a product that does not meet the, what used to be, high quality standards that Braun was known for. It is my opinion you would be better suited to buy one of the less expensive Chinese products knowing that it will likely fail within 12-18 months. For the price differential you can buy three products from the competition and you won’t be disappointed that you thought you bought the best product only to be deceived.

Actually a close shave

I’ve used mid-range shavers for many years. They’ve always been OK for everyday shaving, but for anything more important I always used a blade. I received this as a gift and was skeptical about seeing a significant improvement despite the extra cost (which is why I always bought mid-range). I was pleasantly surprised to find this really was much better. In the same amount of time as before I can get a nearly blade-smooth shave now. It’s lighter and quieter than what I’ve used before, too. My only complaint with the shaver is the mechanism for removing and replacing the blades is very finicky. As for the cleaning station, it seems really gimmicky. It’s a huge appliance that takes a lot of room on my counter and doesn’t do much more than a good rinse. It’s not refillable either, you’re supposed to buy large plastic tanks to refill it. After a few uses I moved it to the closet.

Not working at all, it does oly have a noise and pull your hair inside real bad, may case a damage to skin.

Braun series 8 ….fantastic!

I rarely write reviews, but I feel compelled to for this product model. The Braun series 8 is a fantastic product. It is a powerful, quick , close shave dry or wet, long lasting charge, and ergonomic razor. It has a flex blade head with the ability to have the head pivot or be fixed into a position. It also has a very good built in trimmer.I bought this razor after trying the newer Series 7 that I bought to replace my older Series 7.The Series 8 was closer in design to my older Braun series 7 which was phenomenal. I only replaced it after 5 plus years because I dropped it otherwise I would still be using it.I will say that the new Braun series 7 didn’t impress me. It was a 5 star wet/dry shave but the design of the head was not as contour friendly with my face if that makes sense. The battery didn’t last long either. Although it came with many attachable pieces for other functions, they didn’t work as well. I just stopped using them.Here is the other fantastic part about Braun. They have a 100 day money back guarantee. I called customer service to inquire about the Series 7 battery life and to relay the fact that I wasn’t impressed with this model as in the past. Since it was well past the Amazon return date, the agent informed me of the 100 day money back guarantee. That process was easy and efficient. So that’s something to keep in mind if your not totally satisfied with Braun products. If you are in the market for an electric razor that has outstanding performance, spend the extra money and get the Braun series 8. I imagine if you wanted to spend a little more, the Braun Series 9 I am sure is worth it as well.
