Frustrating Experience with Braun IPL and Unhelpful Support
I usually trust Braun products, and honestly, we were very happy with this IPL device at first. It was actually working — we could see visible results in hair reduction, and it seemed worth the $400 we paid during the promotion.Unfortunately, just after about three months — right after the 100-day money-back guarantee ended — the device started to stop working. That was really disappointing, especially given how well it had performed initially.What made things worse was the customer service experience. Despite multiple follow-ups, we still haven’t received a return label. The worst is that their policy is replace if not repairable. It seems like I can’t get my money back anymore. For such a reputable brand, I expected much better reliability and support.Overall, it’s frustrating that such a promising product failed so quickly and that getting help has been this difficult.

High-Tech and Worth It- Be Willing to Commit!
I have been using the Braun Smart IPL for a few months now, and I’m genuinely blown away by several aspects of the device. It was definitely a splurge and I was a bit hesitant that it would work as well as it advertised, especially for my somewhat course and dark hair.Let’s begin with the technology: the device and packaging feels premium —which is nice when you are paying premium. The device automatically adapts to your skin tone in real time, while also providing guidance through the companion app. I found the companion app to be moderately helpful, especially at the beginning of my sessions and while learning how the device works over a few sessions.Results: the results were seen fairly quickly, with smoother skin after just a few uses. This was really a welcomed surprise. I could see the difference in hair growth after 2 sessions (2 weeks) and really saw positive results after 4 sessions/weeks.Build quality: the Braun feels comfortable to hold and easy to maneuver. Included in the package are multiple head styles for larger areas and bikini areas, allowing you to cover large areas like both legs in just a few minutes. Pretty convenient!That said, there are a few downsides to consider. The initial cost is quite high compared to some other hair removal systems, so it’s an investment. It also requires consistent use — missing sessions can delay results, so you need to stay committed to the routine. Like most IPL devices, it’s not ideal for all skin tones or hair colors and tends to work best on lighter skin with darker hair. Some areas, like the underarms or bikini line, may also take longer to show results than others.Overall, the Braun Smart IPL is working great for me and living in a warm climate year round, this has been a game changer. I’m amazed. It is actually working. I’ve tried so many things over the years and this one is working. I have very fair skin and dark course hair. I’ve only used this a couple of weeks and the hair is already thinner. I don’t think it hurts at all but I have a high pain tolerance so others may not agree. I’ve used it on my chin and inner thighs. Once those are done I will try other areas.

1-Year Update: A Husband and Wife’s Experience Using the Braun IPL
OVERALL EXPERIENCE & COST SAVINGSI ordered the Braun IPL Skin I-Expert for myself and my wife. We both like silky smooth skin in certain areas and shaving can get tiring really quickly. Let me just tell you before we start this review, that we both still have to shave certain areas that we have used the laser hair removal on, it is just significantly less and other areas we don’t have to shave at all. Let me explain and I’ll start with ladies first, my wife’s experience with this laser after using it for over a year….yes I said a year later and I’m writing both of our experiences. My wife wanted to get this to use on her underarm hair. She has really thin, lady like under arm hair and it’s not very noticeable but she wanted to be able to wear a sleeveless dress and raise her underarms without worrying about the hair being visible. Prior to getting this laser, she had professional laser hair removal done but even though she had professional laser removal done, she was still having to go back to the clinic every few weeks and pay around $50 for a follow up treatment. I did the math on her continuing to go back to the clinic and spend time and $50 each time and quickly realized that this Braun laser hair removal product would save us priceless time on our weekend and a lot of money!MY WIFE’S EXPERIENCE: UNDERARMSSo I started treating her underarms and did the treatment about every two weeks to a month. I would focus the laser directly over her underarm hair and she would feel a slightly tingle that feels like a pop of static electricity when walking on a heavily carpeted area. I usually turn the laser down to the lowest setting for her because I don’t want her to be in pain. After I treat the area with one zap, I lovingly rub the skin area and she says it helps it feel better. I really like doing this for her because it helps us bond closely and allows me help her feel even more beautiful that she is. Overall it takes about 5 minutes for treating both underarms. After the underarms are treated I noticed that the hair usually falls out and comes back a lot thinner or doesn’t come back at all. My wife’s underarms look beautiful when using this. I think they look great even with the hair but without the hair they look beautiful too and she can wear the sleeveless dresses that she likes and feel comfortable in them. We have treated her underarms for about a year and I’ve noticed that now we have to treat them less and less with treatments usually about every 1-2 months now. We will notice a few small hairs and just zap them and be good for another month of no shaving her underarms. So that’s the laser experience for my wife. Even if we would have purchased the laser hair for her, it would still be well worth it with cost savings and the time we get to spend together bonding while I give her treatments….but there is a bonus…the husband (me) gets to use it too, so we really get our money’s worth. Here is a man’s experience with laser hair removal below.MY EXPERIENCE: MULTIPLE APPLICATIONSI didn’t realize there were so many applications for laser hair removal for a man. I use this on my upper thighs, my glutes and my sensitive bikini line areas below the belt.TREATING THE UPPER THIGHSI’ll start first and tell you about my experience using it on my upper thighs. I started out doing heavy laser treatments almost every week on my upper thighs. I have really thick coarse hair all over my legs. The leg hair is so coarse that it feels like steel wool. I personally don’t like it at all. I decided to remove hair using this device starting at the top of my waist about halfway down to the bottom of my thighs. I did a laser treatment on the powerful setting (the number 3 setting) and I barely felt it on my thighs. It doesn’t even tingle at all in this area. After roughly one month I started to slowly see results. The hair grew back slower but it was still growing back. After about 3 months of using this on my thighs, it really started to neutralize the hair and was getting more serious results. The hair was still growing in but it was growing in slower and thinner. I did still need to occasionally shave. I continued to use this device sporadically for a few more months on my thighs. I stopped using it on my thighs and decided to let the hair grow back in. Honestly, letting it grow back in in this area was the best result of all from using the IPL and that’s because when the hair grew back on my thighs, it grew back pretty soft and was also nice and thin. My hair no longer felt like coarse steel wool on my thighs and instead is now how I wish my hair was to begin with. Next I tried the laser hair removal on my glutes and sensitive areas below the belt. My experience is below.TREATING THE GLUTESLet me start off by saying that when using IPL in the glutes and bikini line area that it hurts a little. So when using it on the glutes, it stings like a rubber band popping on sensitive skin. For me, it wasn’t as painful when using the device on the top of the glutes but the closer that I went down toward the bottom of the glutes towards the sensitive upper thigh area, that’s when I started to feel it sting like little bee stings. Oh, and the worst part about using this laser hair removal device on the glutes was how bad it starts to sting. I really start to feel the sting on the glutes. Using IPL on my glutes did take at least 2 months to notice results. The hair was thick to begin with and very long. After continued weekly use I started to notice that I was having to shave less and less but I do still have to shave my glutes and constantly use IPL on a regular basis about once a month or else the hair on my glutes will not stay under control. Just like my upper thighs, the hair that grows back on my glutes is softer and it also doesn’t have that sharp, pointy feel that it used to have after I shaved. That’s my laser hair experience on my glutes, next I’ll tell you about how it feels and how the results for Braun IPL are in sensitive bikini line area.TREATING THE SENSITIVE BIKINI AREASo using Braun IPL in my bikini area is a completely different experience than using on every other part of the body because the pain level significantly increases and the amount of heat and or energy from the IPL device tends to build up in this area, making the removal process not only hot, but painful. I recommend not starting your laser hair removal experience on this part of the body but instead starting with another part of the body like the legs, underarms, or glutes because this area will take some getting used to when using IPL and the pain will also linger for a few minutes to a few hours afterwards depending on the level the IPL device is set on.So, I used the IPL on a weekly basis on my bikini area. Keep in mind in this sensitive area, I noticed that the pain feels like a large bee sting, plus the feeling of hot water on the skin. I believe the feeling of the hot water on the skin is due to the thick dark hair being thicker than most other hair on the body and that the energy from the device was then concentrated down into my skin as it followed its way down the hair follicle. After using IPL in this area, I noticed that my skin continues to feel hot for about an hour. This area is one of the areas that I always put an aftercare cream on due to the intense amount of pain after a session. Regarding session frequency, I noticed that in this area for the first few weeks that I had to make sure never to accidentally skip a session. If I did, the hair would start to grow back quickly. It took over 6 months to notice results in this area but, I will say that after the 6 months that the hair started growing in significantly slower. In this area, the hair isn’t really much softer but instead it just grows in slower. I still have to shave every day to 2 days at most but I don’t have to use IPL as often after the 6 months. I recommend being very patient when using IPL in this area. That’s my experience using IPL in the men’s bikini area.TREATING THE FACE & MEN’S UNDERARMSI tried IPL on my face and I didn’t notice any difference at all. The pain level of the facial IPL for me was similar to the pain level on my glutes in that it was very noticeable but not as bad as the bikini area IPL. I tried IPL for a few months on my face and after not seeing any results, I stopped using it on my face. I think the facial hair on my face was just too thick and dark for IPL to give results. Oh I forgot to mention, I also used this on my underarms. I did put the experience of using it on my wife’s underarms but I totally forgot that I used it on my underarms too! Let me tell you about this and why I liked using it on my underarms.First of all, the pain level when using it on my underarms wasn’t bad at all. The reason I started using it on my underarms wasn’t a cosmetic reason but instead was because I was wanting to decrease body odor. It worked wonders for reducing body odor. Prior to using IPL, I was stinky! I smell so much better after using it on my underarms and my wife is grateful since she likes me to smell nice. The underarms were another body part took a few months (roughly 2-3 months) to start seeing results. I didn’t see a permanent reduction in hair under my arms but using IPL does allow me to shave my underarms about every 5 days-weeks as opposed to shaving every day prior to using IPL.FINAL VERDICT: IS IT WORTH IT?So that’s mine and my wife’s experience using the Braun IPL Skin I Expert. This is a significant investment but I feel like after using it for over a year on my underarms, face, thighs, glutes, men’s bikini area, and on my wife’s body too, that I have already fully gotten my money’s worth. Braun really made a fantastic product and it’s backed by a 5 year warranty which means I have almost another 3-4 years of guaranteed life from this device. When I factor in the $50 my wife was paying for maintenance sessions, and the fact that I’ve done several thousand dollars worth of IPL treatment on myself over the course of the last year and that I will continue treatment with this device alone for at least another 4 years since I know it’s backed by Braun’s warranty, I stand relieved knowing my investment in this device has paid itself off.This is the longest and most detailed review I’ve ever written on an Amazon product. Life-changing
Terrific product. Honestly life-changing. I’m Italian and had coarse hair on my legs which I was always self-conscious about. Had to shave daily if I didn’t want to see stubble and have prickly legs. Within a couple of months the hair was fine and after a few more months I am now able to go over a week without shaving and my legs feel so soft. I can even go longer because most areas I don’t see hair growth. The bikini area and knees are a little more resistant so I still have some coarse hair there but it’s so much less now. I love this product. Better results with this than expensive salon “permanent” laser hair removal.

50-60% hair reduction in 3 months
Very impressive results honestly. I wasn’t sure what to expect but after using it daily on my chest and pubic area for about 3 months, I let the hair grow back for a while just to see the difference and wow, I’m quite impressed. Easily a 50-60% hair reduction, and the hairs still there are much less coarse. And this was after letting it grow back completely for 2 months no shaving and I stopped using the ipl during the 2 months because I wanted to see the actual before and after of full growth hair. So it definitely works, and I’m gonna keep using it. Mind you I had very coarse, thick black chest and pubic hair before this. Only downside is after using it for about 30 mins the machine starts to get hot and it starts to hurt a bit more than the usual little snap. But if you only use for 15-25 mins, it really is not painful at all except for like the most sensitive areas, but I don’t find it bad even then. I recommend it for sure even though it is pricey, just be ready to dedicate 30-45 mins everyday for like 6 months to get to 95% hair reduction if you have thick coarse hair like me.

This is my armpit just so everyone hase a heads up 😆. So I was screpitcal about this device, but I clearly see a difference. These are real results. The only things I do not like about the device is it doesn’t come with eye protection, the cooling sensation is mild so it hurts just a little depending on where you use the device and it will not go off unless positioned just right which might be a safety feature but it is annoying. Other then that as you can see I have dark hair, I struggle with ingrown hairs which create bumps and when shaving they do get hit every now and again. I also have large pores. This is without using the machine consistently and there is still a huge difference. My discoloration is changing, my pores are smaller and there are less ingrown hairs creating bumps. Overall I would say this is definitely worth your money as long as you are ok with just a hint of pain…it honestly just feels like a hot pinch.
