I recommend if you are brand new to this idea of …

Okay so let me get this clear. This will probably be the only review you need to read. I have been straight shaving for a little more than a year now. When I first started I only cut myself a few times but picked up on it very quick. I learned from YouTube. I started off with a cheap 10 dollar straight from made with a plastic handle. Again, I use to shave with a plastic one that taught me how to use and be light with my hands. I recommend if you are brand new to this idea of shaving you start off with a plastic handle razor because they are very light and easier to control. This however is a all metal construction and takes more control. This one will be much harder for you if your are just starting out because it is heavy and requires more control. If this is not your not new to shaving and are looking for a upgrade. This is your razor!I know how to use it and it is amazing! For the price its a huge bargain! I would put this at a price point of around $25.00 and its only $12.00. This is a lot about how good this company is also. They made a beautiful straight edge that the majority of people can afford. So I really salute them too.To insert the blade slide it from the side and lock it by pushing down the top handle. Thanks Again for this amazing Razor!

Not bad for the price. good as a starter kit or inexpensive gift.

Not a bad razor kit for the price. At the time i purchased it, it was just under $13. Im happy with it. a few points:1. The derby branded razors have worked very well for me. They’re super sharp, and glide smoothly once my face has been properly prepped; after a hot shower and a good lather. Some people don’t like derby, but i haven’t had a problem with them. The key is using a very light touch.2.. the “shavette” (shavette is a brand name, not the technical name, im not sure what these types of razors are actually called) Is only the vehicle for the Razor. i will concede that, as other have mentioned, this is a bit heavy; Not so heavy to be unusable, but heavy enough to require a bit more fine motor skill. once you get used to it, its perfectly fine.3.The build quality, while looking fairly nice, is typical of something at this price point: the bevel and razor holding arms are machined a little rough, but this doesn’t really impact the shaving. The razor arms are permanently pinned in with no adjustment. mine is a bit loose, which is annoying. Id prefer it be a tighter fit so the scales don’t open and close while im shaving. instead im having to hold it open with my fingers while im shaving.4. There are no instructions with the unit. Not that this is a terribly complicated razor to use, but at first, it would have been very easy to have done something stupid trying to get the razor in. There are plenty of good how to videos demonstrating how to load these types of razors. i suggest looking those up before getting started. For the price, im not disappointed.

For a Shavette….This is as Good as it Gets

For a shavette, I’d recommend this very much. But having been new to straight razors, and now having an actual straight razor. Let me emphasize that shavette’s are completely different and not near as quality of a straight razor. The shave isn’t as close, the comfort level is not near as high. Overall, I’d not recommend buying a shavette, but if you are insistent on trying one before investing in a full-on straight razor….then you can’t go wrong with this one.But just FYI, they kinda hurt. And form what I’ve found out talking to people that are really in the ‘know,’ about straight razors, that’s just what you get with a shavette. The first time I used it, I got one side of my face done, and had to psyche myself up to finish…because it was so uncomfortable. If you use a shavette, again this is a good one, but be sure to hang on some sites like:https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=2&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CCoQFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fstraightrazorplace.com%2F&ei=XgqGVYKXF8ihyASYmrLACA&usg=AFQjCNHhj7VsodzBSz7gNDVZ5kwN7umXTg&sig2=J1kytrCIkcX3sqw03yVpIQ&bvm=bv.96339352,d.aWwand get advice on how to properly use them. Do this with a straight or a shavette. And I can’t tellyou how important it is to get a great lather of cream on your face, to use good hot water and be ready to refresh both the cream and the water if it feels dry at all when you get further along. I recommend lathering half your face at first, then the other half once you are to that side. When new to shaving with a straight razor or shavette, it will take you a while to get one half done. At least it should if you’re careful. So overall, get a straight razor if at all possible…here’s my first one and it’s cheap and awesome for the money:https://amazon.com/dp/B00LWPWOVK/?tag=httprunlimcom-20But if you must buy a shavette, then the CS-102 is a great value. But study up, and be prepared to face a learning curve.

Best shave ever no doubt, others have come close, but now this close

Here goes … Im a guy in my early 40’s and always been “curious” about shaving with a straight razor. I’ve had it for a couple of weeks now and have shaved with it 3 time by now. There is definitely a learning curve. It does take time to get accustomed to holding the razor, the feel of it on your skin, and the sharpness of the blade as its cutting thru one’s thick beard and mustache for the first time, not to mention the fact that your basically holding a scalpel in your hands can slice thru your “jugular” as the slightest mistake (just kidding). But seriously, You need to go reeeeeeaaaaaal slooooooooow, speed/quickness is not your friend. Take it slow, don’t be afraid of nicking your self here and there, it’s only normal. You will feel some resistance from your beard, specially if you’re like me and have a thick, tough beard and mustache. Watch plenty of videos on Youtube, prep your face and lather up real good. Shaving cream and oil are your friend. I didn’t realize that the name of the game is “lubrication, lubrication, lubrication”, your face will thank you once you’re done and feel less irritated. A few of you are going to disagree with me at the very least, but then again this is my review … after watching about 1,000 videos at least 10 times each. I only do about 1/4 of what they recumbent. I shave pretty much the way I drive. As long as I get from point A to point B in one piece and without committing any felonies, I’ve accomplished my goal. (if you live out in the country and never driven in the L.A. freeway or N.Y.C. or the Turnpike then you can drive by the book). I find that (1) if I shave down on the first pass and (2) shave from side to side on the 2nd pass, (3) shave against the grain on the third pass and (4) shave against the grain when my face is “completely dry” you will get the closet smoothest shave you will ever ever experience. All things considered. the Samurai feels great in the hand, it’s made of solid stainless steel, it’s very well constructed, looks very nice, it’s very very impressive right out the box … I really really love it …. but, the Samurai without the blade is pretty much worthless, you might as well be shaving with your toothbrush. It’s the blade that does all the work. I’ll be honest with you guys. I found the “swivel arm” a nuisance and it got in my way a lot, so I took it upon myself to disassemble it and just keep the part that holds the blade, I only use the arm for storage but that’s about it. Im sure there are a few you out there that would agree with me as far as the “L” shape getting in the way and not being able to see at times or even holding the bloody thing. Anyway … I’ve digressed. I’m willing to admit that I was extremely skeptical about how close a shave and how smooth my face would be. I’ve use all kinds of disposable razors, I’ve used all the major brands, Mach 3’s, Mach 5’s and so forth, but NONE come anywhere close to the kind of shave that you can get from a single blade straight razor, NOT now not in a million years. This is truely the best shave a man can get. I highly recommend it, not bad for a $12 investment. I can recall a 1,000 other things where I’ve pissed more money away and regret it afterwards.

Good model for those who want to learn how to use a straight razor

This is a great shaver and blade combo to learn how to use a straight razor.I have been shaving with a double-edged safety razor for a little less than a year now, and decided to upgrade to the next level in shaving. This was a good choice, due to the following reasons:1. Price: You can’t beat $12.95 + free shipping. The Derby blades alone cost $7.19 on Amazon, so you effectively get the shaver at just over $5.2. Nice pairing: I was a bit concerned at first that this shaver came with Derby blades, since I have found Derby double-edged blades to be too dull for my taste in the past. However, this was a good feature here: The Derby blades are plenty sharp enough to get my face “baby smooth,” but they are also pretty forgiving as I am still learning how much pressure to apply.3. Easy to maintain: The stainless steel construction is easy to clean. I suspect that this shaver will losen up over time, and I’ll need to replace it. At this cost, I’d gladly just buy another, though I expect to upgrade by then.4. Easy to grip and maneuver: As you can see in the photograph of this product, there is a thumb notch just past the heel of the blade. This is very handy for added control. I’ve had no difficulty keeping a firm grip on this shaver.5. Nice weight: Other reviewers menton that this shaver feels heavy. After shaving with a heavy Merkur double-edged safety for several months, I thought the weight of the Classic Samurai was just right. If you’re a newbie like me, expect a few nicks at first. Don’t let that deter you. There is a learning curve with this shaving style. The Classic Samurai is a good model to get your feet wet.

Darn it, almost a week with no nick!

Specs: The Samurai CS-102 is about 1 3/4 oz in weight; approximately 5 3/4 inches total length closed. The blade length is the same as a double edge razor blade although the blade doesn’t quite extend as far out as the blade on my Dorco DE razor. Overall, the construction seems sturdy and I really like the feel of the razor. After returning to the DE razor last month and doing very well with it, I decided to try a straight razor. I selected this one and I am extremely satisfied so far. I have had the razor a week now and I was doing well until today when I got my first tiny nick below my nose. Not enough to bleed, just a little red spot of blood that went away after rinsing. So, I almost made it through my first week without any nicks, cuts or blood. The technique for using the straight razor takes some getting use to since you are holding it a differently than a DE razor and your arm and hand block your clear view. It was worse for me being 61 years old and wearing progressive lens eyeglasses. After a few shaves with the DE razor, I can now shave without my glasses. The straight razor was a different story since I have to cock my head a different angle and it really distorted my view. Fortunately I have some single lens glasses I use for the computer. I was able to wear them for the straight razor and it gave me a clearer view. The only gripe was that I had to squeeze my fingers between the temple piece and my skin to lift it. After a couple of cheek shaves, I can no shave my cheek portion without my glasses and I put them on (for now) when I shave the rest of my face until I can get that good muscle memory. What really helped me go a week practically blood free was the system I followed. I watched a few of the youtube videos and started out with just a day or two shaving only my strong hand side cheek and finishing with my DE on the rest of my face. I then added my weak side cheek. Feeling comfortable I went ahead on about the fourth day with a full face shave even though I originally was going to progress a little at a time. Taking it a little at a time and getting use to the stroke, angle and technique really helps. I also started out on the first day, and some days later, doing several practice runs without a blade to get the technique and stroke down. The razor is more forgiving than I figured it would be. I was expecting to look like I got slapped by Freddie Kruger but that never happened. I had the razor at different angles (staying within the 30 degrees or less) to get the right combo and never caused any cuts with this experimenting. Like one video said, I started out having the razor flat against my skin and started creating an angle until it felt right and did the job.The main thing is to take your time and be conscious of each pass and how you are holding the blade against your skin. If you pay attention and observe what is going on, you shouldn’t have any problems. You will realize that it can actually not be an instrument of torture after all.As far as the blade goes, I change it out after every shave. I don’t have thick whiskers but I noticed if I go more than one shave, it really tugs on my skin. At this learning stage, I don’t want any tugs to disrupt my movement but I want smooth passes.Overall, if you want to give straight razor shaving a try this is a good introduction step at a good price.

    Amazing…simply amazing!!

This is the shave I’ve always wanted at the low price I’ve always wanted. When I think of all the money I wasted over the years on cartridge razors I feel sick.I’m still working on finding the right/perfect shaving oil, but the shaving foam I use right now will work until then. Shaving is smooth, easy, precise and gives me the crispy lines I used to have to pay big money at the barber shop for.The razor itself is perfectly weighted and beautiful stainless steel. Much better than those plastic dovo razors. Plus loading this razor is so easy!Perfect.Just perfect.15AUG16 UPDATE:I’ve been using this for about a week now and I have to tell everyone how great this is.Shaving used to be a painful, burning expensive pain in the butt…all because of crappy cartridge razors. But this…this is soooo much better! I’ve been shaving with this since last thursday and I haven’t gotten one ingrown hair!!No more razor burn and no more dent in my wallet!! It came with enough razors for a whole year and replacements for another year cost less than 10 dollars!!Shaving has become a relaxing ritual for me now. Getting my moustache and beard lines perfect has inspired me to grow out my beard. I’ve been turned on to shaving oils and beard oil and my facial hair is healthier, fuller and softer than it’s ever been. Not to mention my face skin! Baby butt smooth!I’ve ordered a safety razor to start cutting my head hair instead of dealing with the clippers all the time. Another relaxing ritual to do on the weekend.I feel like a brand new person…this is a combination of my love of bladed objects and good smelling aromatherapeutic private time.Wait til the wife leaves for work…put “Mongrel meets his maker” on loop and have a good time…

Wonderful experience of buying the product

The product is very nice for the money. Strong and sturdy and the finish is exceptional. The addition of the Derby blades makes the offer, even more, sweeter. The company in charge of importing the product from the USA had been very professional in expediting the delivery of the product. Right from constantly sending emails and tracking details and also making sure the product is delivered to the proper address.

Best Shavette I’ve tried, buy it for life

I’ve tried two or three other (more expensive) shavettes and I keep coming back to this one. The holes align perfectly with the pegs and keep the blade secure and recessed enough to not constantly cut you, the shackle slides on firmly, and the build quality is incredibly sturdy. I ordered this in 2018 when I first had to start shaving, and it lasted me until August of 2025 with no issues till a TSA agent that didn’t know what she was talking about said it was a weapon and seized it. I immediately reordered this shavette. If it lasted me seven years with no issue, it’ll last the rest of my life or until I forget to check my shaving kit again.
