The heat comb does work. It gets hot enough to straiten hair. BUT, if you’re using the comb (for your beard or a wig) the comb is plastic so it will also get hot and fall off. This exposes your face or scalp to the direct heat of the comb.I used it for one minute. The comb became loose, started to fall off and then did fall off (repeatedly) and eventually burned my face. I stopped using it before it seriously burned me.Even the fold down rest that keep the comb from burning whatever you place the comb on, has a rubber coating. Nothing stops this piece and the hot comb from touching. So, it will melt and ruin your comb.This is a good idea for a product however, the lack of attention to multiple design flaws makes it not worth the damage it can do to your skin or counter.

I was pleasantly surprised at how well this pressing comb worked. I have a perm which has grown out due to hair salons being closed in my state. After washing and drying my hair, the pressing comb straightened out my new growth very well. So glad I purchased this product.

Would grandma approve.

My grandmother used a hot comb consistently for her hair. Placed on the stove, on the fire and with a wet rag to pat it on in case it was too hot. This one gets really hot. There isn’t a temperature control and the covers that come with it won’t stay on. Overall it works well and straightened hair like I wanted. I do like the stand connected to it so it won’t rest on anything directly.

Don’t Bother With the Guard

Listen, if you’ve been burnt by one of these, the idea of a guard is too good to pass up. A hot comb straigthens my hair better than anything else but isn’t something i’d consider (or really even see anymore) but when I saw that this one came with a guard I thought, heck yeah lets give it a go.Well unfortunately, no matter how you hold it the guard falls off quite easily and trying to catch it/use it is such a dangerous risk. I did end up using it without the guard and it seemed to work really well but off course I was too scared to go close to my scalp so… if you have somebody doing your hair or if you do hair then i’d maybe recommend it but if you’re thinking of getting it because the guard will save your scalp than save your money.

Too Hot to Handle but Gets the Job Done

I am giving the Dan 500℉ Hot Comb 3 stars because it works well for straightening and laying wigs, but there are a few important issues that cannot be ignored. The comb heats up extremely fast and definitely gives salon-like results on thick or textured hair. It glides nicely and helps make hair look sleek within minutes, which I really liked.However, the biggest downside is the heat level. This comb gets very hot, even on lower settings, and if it accidentally touches your skin or scalp, it can hurt badly. You also need to be extra careful while using it because too much heat can easily burn or damage your hair if you leave it in one spot for too long. I noticed there is not enough precise control over the temperature, so sometimes it feels hotter than expected. A better heat regulation system would make it much safer and easier to use.Another issue is durability and consistency. Some users online also mentioned that the comb either stopped heating properly after some time or did not maintain temperature evenly.
