Reviewing Dippity-Do Original Hair Gel, Volume 10+, XX-treme Hold (Durable), Power, 350 ml / 11.8 Fl Oz.It was a sad day a few years ago when I walked into my local beauty supply store & asked for something like Dippity-Do with which I could do a wet set. Not surprisingly, the clerk didn’t know what I was talking about. When I explained that it was a product we used in the 60s & 70s, she went to a bottom shelf, and blew the dust off a container (literally) of pink gel. It worked pretty well, but not as well as I remember Dippity-Do. A year later, I went back to the same store & asked for another jar of the pink stuff & the clerk informed me that they no longer carried it. She said most salons used setting lotion. Tried that, huge bust. My fine, straight hair needs something industrial strength. Tried a lot of the styling gels & even mixed some together, but the curl would only last a few hours.No longer made by Clarol, this is the closest thing to Dippity-Do I remember. My curls lasted a few days, no flakes or residue – and I really slather it on. After towel drying my hair, first I comb it thru all of my hair. then as I’m setting (& some of my hair begins to dry), I spritz it with a little water to “activate” the gel again. If you have hard-to-hold, short hair like mine, try setting as above with large & medium perm rods (remove the string & cap & hold in place with claw hair clips). My hair, which is a Marilyn retro style, came out perfectly, finger-separating curls & fluffing up with a pick. Finish up with Aqua Net hair spray or something similar.I don’t think you have to be into retro-style hairdos to love Dippity-do. It’s still a great product & am so glad I found it again!

When you get older… pretty much everything in life gets worse, especially your appearance. At 41 I started to notice that my shiny, silky, soft ringlets were looking scraggly, dry, matted, and frizzy. Which is because… my nice hair was being replaced with scraggly, jagged, coarse hair. Hair that stands straight up and makes me look like I’ve been electrocuted. I call these hairs my Hag Hairs.Very few gels made my Hag Hairs lay flat. I had to apply two different kinds at once, in layers, and use almost a quarter cup at a time. And still… by mid afternoon, the Hag Hairs were sticking up again. And then I happened to see that my old favorite, Dippity Do, had made a comeback. And I thought… maybe?I have defined curls again. They look soft and shiny again. No gel in this world can kill the Hag Hairs, just like no gel in the world can bring joy back to a frumpy joyless middle-aged life, but they seem to blend in with my good hair more.This gel… is as close to a miracle as you can get if your hair sucks like mine does.

Love the gel, such poor packaging.
I got this for my 13 year old son who has very fine hair and this holds and looks good when so many other products don’t. The product is amazing!The only problem is that when I reordered it recently, it arrived with the cap completely off and 2/3 of the gel all over the packaging. Amazon had no way to just ask for a replacement or refund without returning it (I looked all over and couldn’t find anyway) so I put the lid back on and washed it off and sent it back while asking for a replacement. When the replacement arrived the cap was at least on this time but the lid was flipped open! At least this way most of the gel was still in the bottle but about an eighth was not. I decided to keep it instead of going to the trouble of returning, but still annoying. The shipper could really fix this situation by shrink wrapping the bottle or having a seal on the opening. I am shocked that they don’t actually.Anyway, I love the product, but the shipping needs improvement!

Not XX-treme Hold
I remember when…. I used the Original Dippity Do. I wanted to wear Pixie wigs. I wanted my hair cut into a Pixie cut to help me control it. I needed Dippity Do. I use it when I do not have a wig on. It helps hold my fine, sparse hair where I want it. It is easy to apply, just put some on your palms and run your palms through your hair. I did not notice a scent. My hair was still soft to the touch. I do not feel or see or find an XX-treme Hold. This is what I was looking for in this product. I am disappointed.

Great Product That Delivers for Curling Hair!
I would have given this product 5 stars except I definitely don’t like the packaging. The bottle style does not work. Don’t know why it was designed this way. It should have been in the jar like it originally was packaged way back when. I use a plastic lid onto which I pour a small amount so that I can set my hair with rollers. The bottle concept simply can’t work when applied in this manner. But the product itself is fantastic! It definitely provides the curls and the curls last a long, long time. Would definitely recommend this XX-treme hold when you need to use curlers. Love, love, love the product!

I hadn’t seen Dippity-Do since I was a kid, back when it came in a jar, so I had no idea they still made it. I’ve always needed a hair gel to keep my hair in place, but I prefer something that doesn’t feel stiff or glue-like. I had been using another product for years and happened to come across this one while searching for a new hair gel. I remembered Dippity Do from when I was a kid and thought, do they still make it?To my surprise, I found this product and decided to give it a try. All I can say is WOW! This is honestly the best hair gel I’ve used in years. In fact, I would almost say it doesn’t feel like a typical gel at all because of the way it holds. It reminds me more of the old-style hair products that came in jars where you dipped your comb into them.The texture is light and smooth, spreads easily in your hands, and applies effortlessly to the hair. It keeps my hair in place without becoming overly stiff, sticky, or tacky.I absolutely love this product and will definitely be ordering more. It is well worth the price — you truly get what you pay for, and this product is worth every penny.
