Awesome gel for holding edges, and no white residue!
I got this for my friend to try on her daughter’s braids, as she has been struggling to find a gel that really does what it says it will and holds the edges. It is apparently a great gel that really does what it says, and holds all day! It is easy to work with, isn’t runny or greasy but it leaves a nice sheen on the hair. It smells really good but isn’t overpowering. No white residue and no flaking, as the product claims–it actually performs. This will be a return purchase for sure.

This edge control actually works really well. The texture is thick and perfect for sculpting and hold down thick type 4 hair. The smells is nice…until I sweat (while exercising) and for some reason it gets an almost cheesy smell ? Very odd. Its not greasy though and it does last pretty much until I wash it off.

What I love about this hair gel is that it lays down the edges well without there being any flaking or residue. It does have mega hold and I love that it has rice water. This is a non-greasy formula and it also adds a healthy looking shine to the hair, giving it a sleek appearance. Very effective in its use. A great value for how well it works and protects the hair and there is a light fragrance, which isn’t too noticeable when worn, so it won’t affect how you smell.

I received this Dr. Girls Rice Water Lock & Twists Brading Gel. This product is easy to use and easy to put on my hair. The instructions are easy to follow and very easy to understand. The products smells great and it works. I use it for my frizz or bumps and it does help a lot. I noticed also that it is controlling my hair from breaking apart. The product is definitely as described. I also use it for my braids and they stay in place and they don’t look like they have to be redone again. So the hair holds in place with this gel. This gel is effective for controlling the wind too on a long trip. The gel seems like made with great quality ingredients. It says that is hall all these ingredients in it, With Biotin, Castor Oil, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein & Collagen. So this is defined a great value for the money because for that price and to have all those ingredients is a great value for the money. My favorite ingredient is biotin. I know is an important ingredient for my hair. This gel does the job right and looks great and my hair is shinning.This product makes a great gift present for ladies. I had no side effects or rash while using this gel. I recommend this gel for taking care of your hair.

No White Residue, But the “Extra Mega Hold” Didn’t Quite Deliver
Residue:The biggest positive for me is that this gel doesn’t leave behind white flakes or residue. I used it daily for a week and never had an issue with buildup or that chalky look that some edge controls leave behind. That’s a huge plus in my book.Fragrance:It smells really nice. The scent is pleasant without being overwhelming, and I actually enjoyed using it because of that.Hold:This is where my experience was mixed. The product claims “Extra Mega Hold,” but I just didn’t get that level of hold. I tried it on dry hair, damp hair, wet hair, freshly washed hair, and hair with absolutely no other products. Out of all those methods, dry hair gave me the best results. My edges held better after I revisited the product, but it still wasn’t what I’d consider extra-hold performance.Non-Greasy:When I first got it, it felt much too oily for my liking. In fact, I stopped using it after the first few attempts and put it away for over a month. When I picked it back up in June and started using it again, it seemed completely different and performed much better. I honestly wonder if it got too warm initially and needed time to firm back up because the texture felt noticeably improved later on.Effectiveness:I purchased this on April 25, 2026, specifically because of the claims about repairing and restoring damaged or thinning areas. While my edges are a little thinner than I’d like, I don’t have significant thinning or damaged spots. After using it consistently, I can’t say I noticed any restoration or regrowth benefits. It worked as an edge control, but I didn’t see evidence of the repair claims during the time I used it.Value for Money:At the $9.95 list price, I think the value is fair, especially considering the size of the jar. You get a decent amount of product, it smells great, and it doesn’t leave residue behind. Even though it wasn’t my favorite edge control, it’s definitely usable and not a bad deal for the price.I’ll finish the jar and use it up, but it didn’t perform well enough for me to purchase it again.
