Firm Boards
These hair boards don’t bend or flop around, they’re a sturdy base that feels firm in your hand. One side’s got a diamond texture, the other is smooth. Both are plastic and kind of feel like those thin cutting boards you’d find in the kitchen, just shaped for hair instead. The handle’s wide, easy to hold, and the longer board’s a bit heavier than the short one but not too much.They’re the right length for pretty much any hair type. If you do balayage or highlights, these are a total must. You need something to paint on, and these work perfectly for that. Before I got them, I used random stuff around the house, like food container lids, and it was a disaster. Messy, uneven, and just made me regret even trying to do my own highlights.With these, everything’s cleaner and more controlled. You use less product, the hair lays flat, and you can actually paint both sides without juggling. Way less frustration, way better results, and no weird patchy spots after bleaching.

Another great Fromm brand product
The first thing I loved about the Fromm Color Studio Balayage Board Set, upon opening the package, is the colors of the boards. The seaglass colors are beautiful. They look like they belong in a high-end spa salon. Second, the two-length boards for different lengths of hair are genius. Third, they are of fantastic quality! There is a learning curve to get comfortable holding them, maneuvering the handles, and choosing the right side of the board to use for the service you are providing, but once you’ve got it, they are a balayage (or any other freehand coloring service) game changer. The tapered edge makes it convenient to set against the client’s scalp, and gets you right up to the scalp without that eighth of an inch gap that some thicker boards have. If you need a gift idea for your colorist, this is it, and for under $13 (at the time of this review), you can give a great gift without spending a ton of money.

Sturdy and affordable!
These are solid, well-made Balatage boards. I have super long hair that goes down to my waist that is hard to self-highlight. These really help a lot for the sides and the front to make it a little quicker., however, the longer board is a little too heavy for me to be able to use it easily towards the back on myself. Nonetheless, the quality and attention to detail makes this a good value. I especially appreciate the beveled edge and having the textured surface to help create that space for the bleach to be able to get under the hair as well. It’s also super easy to clean up after you’re done using it.
