Gentle Brush That Smooths Hair Without Pulling
This boar bristle brush is gentle enough for my hair and does a good job smoothing and laying it down without feeling harsh against the scalp. The bristles are soft but still firm enough to help tame flyaways and create a polished look, especially when styling a slick back ponytail or bun. I also like the wavy handle because it gives me a comfortable grip and makes the brush easy to control while styling. The brush feels lightweight but well made, and the size makes it easy to keep in a styling bag or bathroom drawer. My only minor suggestion would be to make the handle slightly thicker for people who prefer a more substantial grip. Great for pulling my fine hair back.
This boar bristles hair brush works wonderfully for my fine hair. I have a lot of frizz and regular brushes don’t do a lot for pulling the fly-aways back. This brush does an excellent job. It smooths my hair out perfectly!I love the handle as well. It has a wavy shape to it that allows me to hold the brush comfortably while brushing my hair or pulling it back. It feels like it’s a good quality brush that will last and it’s the perfect size.

i love a mason pearson brush.i also love keeping several hundred dollars available for literally anything else.this is the tension.i am not trying to slick my hair back into a disciplinary hearing. i have curls. i like the curls. i merely want them softer, smoother and less likely to suggest i slept beneath an open window during a prophecy.this little boar bristle brush does that beautifully.i use it when the curls are still good but the outer layer has become socially ambitious. a few passes and everything settles. the surface looks smoother, the hair feels softer, and the curl pattern remains recognisably mine rather than being brushed into one enormous period-drama cloud.the bristles are firm enough to do something useful without feeling like a livestock tool, and the wooden handle has the sort of old-fashioned dressing-table charm that makes me feel briefly competent.does it replace a mason pearson? functionally, yes. spiritually? no. let us remain serious people.does it give me a very pleasing version of that softening, smoothing ritual for one chai instead of an inheritance? absolutely.if you’re new to my reviews, chai is currency. a chai in nyc is roughly $10, and this brush costs one chai. that is excellent value for mason pearson-adjacent happiness with none of the financial theatre.✨tl;dr✨ softens curls, smooths the surface, keeps the curl pattern alive, and does not require selling a small parcel of family land.

A Good Quality Travel Brush.
This GAINWELL Boar Bristle hair brush is the real deal—genuine boar bristle hair, with a genuine lacquered beech wood handle. There are two clues that give real boar’s hair away: while it’s spiky when the bristles touch your palm, there’s an organic feeling of “give” when you compress the outside edges of the bristles together towards the center. Secondly, a single hair plucked from the brush will burn, rather than melt. I cannot officially recommend flicking a lighter at one’s beauty supplies in the name of science, but now you don’t have to.I found that the Gainwell brush’s polished wood handle is absurdly smooth in my hand, and the bristles moderately firm; soft enough not to rake at my hair like garden tools, but firm enough to shape my thick hair into a neat, smooth ponytail. A wider brush would be faster, but the narrowness of this brush makes it more portable & travel-friendly, especially where space is limited, or in narrow handbags with elongated East-West silhouettes.I tried this brush on my sweetheart as well, and while it was gentle on his hair and got the job done, he did not enjoy the feel of the brush against his scalp. We both have thick hair, but mine is thicker. Most brushes don’t penetrate easily down to my scalp at all, whereas his hair allows it. This is worth noting if you’re hoping to brush someone else’s hair with this brush: if they have a tender scalp, they might prefer a softer option, or a lighter touch.At the current price of $9.99 I consider this—my new designated travel brush—a good value for the money.

My new favorite boar bristle brush!
Boar bristle brushes are my favorite for smoothing out my hair and helping to pull oils from the scalp through to the ends, so I grabbed this GAINWELL Boar Bristle Hairbrush from Vine to have a spare on hand. I had also received one this past year from Vine, so didn’t really need a new one yet, but I find myself reaching for this one more frequently than my previous brush (shown in one image) mainly because I love the lightweight handle so much. The wavy, ergonomic design of the natural beech wood fits so comfortably in my hand—something atypical for me and my tiny hands! The bristles are actually softer than I am used to with boar’s hair, but this works just as well for me as stiffer bristles have in the past. Said bristles are also set farther apart than my other brush and even more so than the ones I used for years before that which allows my hair to glide even more effortlessly. It is also great for smoothing out the strands human hair pieces and blending them into my own hair. Awesome brush and certainly a value at $9.99. I will purchase another when needed. Highly, highly, highly recommend!
