The 100 grit quickly shapes the nail and the 180 grit makes the edge of the nail smooth. You can then use the 1000 and 4000 grit buffer to make your nails extremely smooth. There are several different thicknesses of nail files included with this set. The files and buffer feel like they are made well and will not break easily. The only downfall to this kit is the off gassing when you open up the box. The smell does go away if you leave them out of the box for a few days Overall, I like this nail file and buffer set to maintain my nails. I would recommend this set to anyone looking for nail files. I would order this item again in the future.
