An excellent shampoo, not a good conditioner for long hair
I’ve never used a 2 in 1 before, because my hair is down to my waist, and tangles easily. This sounded like a good product, with cleaner ingredients, so I thought it was worth a try.It’s an excellent shampoo, foams well, and leaves my hair feeling clean and soft. It’s not a good conditioner for detangling long hair. I ended up using my leave-in conditioner, so I could comb through it.My hair has natural wave, but it dries frizzy, if I don’t use any products in it. I was pleasantly surprised that this cleansing conditioner really decreased the frizziness, when I let it dry naturally.The price is high at, $22.00 for 8.5 oz, so I’d only order it again if it came on sale.

Decent, but not a standout
This 2 in 1 cleansing conditioner is really a conditioning shampoo, and for me, it neither cleansed or conditioned my hair exceptionally well. I applied as I would a shampoo, brushed through my hair with a wide tooth comb, and rinsed after leaving in my hair while I washed myself. My hair felt lightly conditioned (it was lacking a little moisture for my curly hair) so a moisturizing leave in was a must- this wasn’t a big issue for me. What was a big issue was the way it made my scalp feel. I live in FL and it’s the season of never go outside. A good cleanse is absolutely necessary for me since my scalp feels disgusting in this humidity. I don’t think this cleansing conditioner did an exceptional job of completely cleansing my scalp, and though my hair felt clean, but my scalp still felt oily, congested, and not quite clean. This may be the perfect cleansing conditioner to use in the winter months, but it doesn’t pass muster for me to use during the summer. I did not find the smell overly harsh or offensive and I experienced no adverse reactions after using. I think this product is average and decent, but it’s not a standout to me. I also think the bottle is a little expensive for the size you receive.

HED Professionals Retain Color Preserving Cleansing Conditioner sounded like a great option for 2-in-1 Hair Care Cleanser & Conditioner for Color-Treated Hair. I color my hair so it’s important to me that I find color safe products.I have only tried a few cleansing conditioners and wasn’t sure this would work. I took a risk and used this on a very dirty hair day because I really wanted to test it. Yes, it cleaned very well. However, it was not moisturizing at all. I could tell as soon as I rinsed it out that my hair did not feel moisturized. When I was combing it out while still wet and detangling it, it was much more difficult to detangle it than usual. There was also a lot more breakage because it was hard to get my wide tooth comb through my long hair. I could see there was more hair pulled out than usual too. Wasn’t pleased. This product didn’t work for me.

Okay so this one freaked me out lol. I didn’t really understand what they meant by “cleansing conditioner” so when I put the product in my hand and it felt more runny than usual, I was confused. And then when it behaved like shampoo, I had to triple check the bottle lmfao. But!! After the triple check, I used the product how it was intended and I really couldn’t believe how well it worked. I normally try to push my washing out to every ~3 days which is already a stretch for me, but the fine purple hair requires it. After my first use of this, I was able to go 4 days with ease and then I washed it just because I reallllyyy really wanted to. All I’m saying is there was a noticeable difference because normally by day 3 I’m looking like a dang rat. I’m so excited about this product!

HED Retain Color Preserving Cleansing Conditioner
I thought this was a conditioner but its actually a 2-1 shampoo and conditioner. If you have color treated hair, it’s likely dry and damaged somewhat so a 2-1, although convenient, just doens’t provide the kind of moisturize your hair needs. That was my takeaway. Convenient but not enough moisture in hair to keep it soft. Need a lot of post washing products to provide hydration to dry and damaged, color-treated hair.

I wasn’t sure what to expect from a 2-in-1 cleansing conditioner, but I’ve actually been really happy with how this worked on my color-treated hair. I’ve been trying to cut back on harsh shampoos, especially after salon visits, and this feels like a great in-between — it cleanses gently without leaving my hair feeling stripped or dry.I like that it’s sulfate-free and vegan, and I’ve used it almost daily without irritation. It doesn’t lather like a regular shampoo, but it still leaves my scalp and hair feeling fresh and soft. The texture is more like a gel, and it spreads easily through the hair. It’s unscented, which I didn’t mind since it didn’t interfere with any styling products I use afterward.

After a few uses I’ve been pleased with the HED Retain Color Preserving Cleansing Conditioner as a 2-in-1 product. It’s perfect for post-gym showers when I need a quick yet effective wash. The formula is pH balanced and gentle, which is great for my color-treated hair, and I love that it doesn’t contain any sulfates or harsh detergents. It creates a surprisingly nice lather for a co-wash, and the light, pleasant scent isn’t overwhelming.What stood out most to me was how well it detangled my long hair—almost as well as using a separate shampoo and conditioner. For a single-step product, that’s impressive. While it might not completely replace my regular two-step routine, it’s become a go-to for days when I need something fast and efficient. It seems like shampoo to me
Perhaps I misunderstood the item description and the meaning of “cleansing conditioner,” but I was expecting a unique type of conditioner that somehow offered a bit of a gentle wash when used. Since my hair is fine and very prone to tangling from shampoo I thought this might be a good solution, allowing me to freshen up and condition my hair without stripping it. Instead I found this to be not much different than a typical shampoo. It smelled like shampoo, lathered like shampoo and unfortunately tangled my hair like shampoo. I had to follow it up with lots of conditioner to detangle my hair, which always weighs it down.To me this seems like an ordinary 2 in 1 shampoo product, heavy on the shampoo and light on the conditioner. I didn’t find the shampoo gentle at all nor did I find the added conditioner to be effective. I’m left feeling like the product name just isn’t at all descriptive of the product itself. I also wasn’t a fan of the bottle top. It took me way too long to figure out that I needed to pop open a tab on the cap to open it and certainly wasn’t happy having to hop out of the shower to find a tool to pry it off with.
