    Too large a barrel for short hair

    I had high hopes for this hair styling tool but it just doesn’t work well for me. First I was surprised by how large the tool itself is, it is bulky in my hand and also takes up a lot of real estate in the cabinet. The barrel is a very large oval shape, and no matter which direction I try (wider or narrower) it’s too large a diameter to curl my chin length hair, even the longest strands at the crown. It sort of straightens my hair, but doesn’t really get it very smooth. And that’s even though this baby gets really hot! The mid setting is just less hot, rather than warm, and even the cool setting doesn’t truly get cool, it’s not like a cool shot on a hair dryer. That’s ok because it seems impractical to use the cool setting to set a curl anyway, since you select it on the rotating dial of the barrel; it should have a button that you could easily toggle between heat/ cool temps. They say you can use the cool setting to set a curl, I’m not sure how well that would work for most people, I found it very awkward to twist that dial while keeping the barrel in place in my hair; maybe with longer hair wrapped securely around the barrel it could work, but it still doesn’t really get very cool. Unfortunately it does not make my dry/processed hair smooth and shiny like I had hoped, in spite of the high heat. That may be because my hair is too short to wrap around it, or because I am cautious about leaving it in contact with my hair for too long, not being thoroughly convinced that the high heat of this tool won’t further damage my hair. It hasn’t been a timesaver for me, I find for my length and style it’s faster and the effect is better using my hairdryer and Lange iron. Since I don’t have the most appropriate hair type and length, I’ve chosen to give this tool 3-stars, benefit of the doubt style, even though for my personal preferences and hair this is closer to a 1 or 2. I will end up giving it away (to someone with long hair, big hands, and a lot of cabinet space to store it).

    Much Easier Than a Dryer & Round Brush

    I got this because of the 4 in 1 versatility. I liked the idea of being able to dry & style my hair with one tool instead of juggling a blow dryer & round brush at the same time. The oval barrel helps smooth my hair while adding some shape to the ends. I also appreciate having three heat & air settings so I can adjust it depending on how wet my hair is & how much heat I want to use. The bristles move through my hair fairly easily without constantly snagging, & the swivel cord is a small detail that helps while styling. It does a nice job of smoothing frizz & leaves my hair looking more polished than simply blow drying it. It’s not going to create the same curls as a traditional curling iron, but for a smooth blowout with volume and softly curved ends, it works really well & saves time.
