    Lovely!

    I just love Light Mountain henna hair colors. I usually buy red (the box with the fox), which gives me a fantastic red. This time, I’m in a mood where I don’t really want red hair anymore, and couldn’t have it professionally lightened. So, “Dark Chocolate”! Oh, I just adore how my hair turned out. It’s a lovely rich dark brown, and it retained hints of my previous red, giving certain parts of my hair a kiss of auburn. I think I’ll use this color in the future, though. It’s just such a nice brown. I did notice that this henna “bleeds” a bit more than the Red does – the first morning, I woke up with my neck and parts of my chin and jaw stained a bluish-brown! Fortunately it came off easily with some soap and water! =)For those who haven’t used Light Mountain henna before, you’ll need to purchase some distilled water to mix the powder with. You work the resulting “mud” through your hair, and leave it on for a couple of hours. In this time, it stains your hair without any harsh chemicals, and even conditions it. Henna has a particular scent to it, and your hair will retain that scent for a couple of washings. It’s not unpleasant, just unique to henna. It will stain the skin around your hair where the “mud” touches, so if you find the edges of your face stained after you rinse out the henna, there’s a super easy trick I figured out to get the stain off your skin. Take some 10% Benzoyl Peroxide acne cream, and apply it to any stained area. In roughly an hour or less, your skin will be back to normal! Obviously do NOT do this if you have any sensitivity to Benzoyl Peroxide.

    meh, not a fan of this shade

    the chocolate brown color is totally meh for me. i semi-regularly use Light Mountain red and LOVE it – makes my hair luxuriously soft and shiny. i tried the chocolate brown shade for something different and all it did was eliminate my subtle natural and red highlights. i didnt even get the same fullness or hair health benefits im used to. i know everyones’ hair is different but for me i know to stick to red

    Blue hue

    I don’t see this color around often and maybe for a reason. It produced a blue Hue over my grey strands, I suspect too much indigo. It may have been an expired batch or perhaps not mixed properly (I only did a test strand). Overall I have heard that this is a good brand of henna, would try again with a different color.

    My holy grail henna!

    I love this henna and have been using it for over a year now!Now, how I mix it. A one step brown henna can be tricky because normally the henna needs to cure to have the best dye release and the indigo only deposits color for a short time in comparison to the henna. The best way I have found to keep my cool tone is to mix with very warm water; I don’t add any vinegar or lemon juice because the indigo does not like it. I do add 1/2 tsp of salt to aid the indigo. I mix the water, salt, and henna mix together and let it cure for 10 minutes before I apply. I leave on 2 hours only because after that the indigo stops depositing color…and I prefer my hair super cool toned.If you are wanting a slightly warmer color you can either let the mix cure longer before applying or keep the mix on your head longer.Now that my length is the color I prefer, I only apply to my roots every month. About every 4 months I mix up a gloss with 4TBS henna mix and 1 cup conditioner and let it sit for 2hrs. This keeps my hair glossy.Most henna mixtures freeze well if you make up too much, but please don’t freee this one once mixed up. The indigo, once mixed with water expires quickly and you will not get the color you want.

    I love this product. I went gray and didn’t like it. I forgot how wonderful henna was and how easy. My kid loves helping me color my hair now! It’s like a hot mud mask for your hair! And the color comes out beautiful!

    Unexpected but still like the color.

    I purchased the Dark Chocolate to go over a copper henna I’ve had on previously. It came out like a dark medium ash brown, then after about a week lightened to a golden brown.I’m happy with the result. Not as dark as you would think- BUT I’m sure if I did it again it would come out darker.This did leave my hair softer, like a henna would. I used warm/hot water to form a paste, and let it sit 5 min before applying. I do get the dreaded “henna” headache from the smell of earth, but I prefer that than regular chemical dye. Overall, I’m happy.Update: I did a second round of the Dark Chocolate and left it on an hour. I managed to get a darker shade of brown without any brassy tones, but not close to brown/black at all. I am keeping it this way- the next shade is indigo-black and I don’t want to go that dark. Brown/Black is one of the hardest colors to lift later on if you decide to go lighter.

    Over 50? Didn’t work for me.

    Does NOT cover gray hair.I’m over 50 and need good coverage. I tried this brand because it doesn’t have the chemical PPD booster that my other brand has. I am one of those people that gets skin damage and blisters from the hair treatment. I can honestly say this brand does not have the PPD and I didn’t experience and blistering or injury. But it just doesn’t work.Some people have had luck with small amounts of gray-hair getting good coverage but my hair only turned blue. Apparently now I see some reviews advise to apply red henna before applying the wanted shade of color. I find this extra step useless for a product that claims it will cover gray hair. So I have to buy their red shade and then the color I want? No thanks.Also just FYI, I did originally use their Chestnut shade with no luck. Thinking I should just try something darker for it to cover the heat I bought and applied the darker brown shade. I still had no coverage. My gray hair turned blue and nothing else. I followed the directions and left the color in for almost 4 hours. I waited the 2-3 days before washing my hair again and all that happened is I rinsed out a bunch of blue- gray foam. I DO NOT recommend this if you have large amounts of gray hair.

    Turned my greys green

    I have been using a similar color henna from another brand regularly to color my hair and camouflage my silver roots. But decided to try out this brand. I did a strand test for my dark brown hair and also dabbed some into a silver spot near my scalp. The strand just turned darker but the silver spot turned a bright green, and remained even after washing it twice. Light Mountain does have a special 2 part cover the gray product, but I’m going to just go back to my old brand. The worse that did was make my silvers a little too red, which is typical for henna products.
