As an Arizona blonde, let me just say the desert water and sun do NOT play nice with highlighted hair. My blonde was starting to look less “expensive salon blonde” and more “left a Barbie on the dashboard in July.” So I gave this purple shampoo a shot.First off, this is actually moisturizing. A lot of purple shampoos make my hair feel like dry tumbleweeds rolling through Scottsdale, but this one left my hair soft and manageable instead of crunchy and angry. The aloe vera and melon ingredients definitely help. My hair felt hydrated without getting greasy or heavy.The toning is solid too. It helped calm down the weird yellowy brassiness around my ends and brightened everything up without making my hair look dull or gray. I also appreciate that it’s sulfate free because my color already costs enough money. I do not need my shampoo fighting against my stylist’s hard work. Also the fragrance is light and airy and smells night, and the texture of the shampoo is lightweight.I have naturally wavy hair that gets frizzy the second Arizona hits 100 degrees, and this made it feel smoother and easier to deal with. Bonus points because it didn’t completely strip my hair or leave purple stains all over my shower like some chaotic evil purple shampoos do.Overall, if your blonde is looking a little yeehaw after too much sun exposure, this stuff is worth trying. Especially if your hair is dry, highlighted, curly, or chemically processed. My hair looked fresher, softer, and significantly less like it had been through a desert survival challenge.

Let’s be real: when my hairdresser first suggested a brand known for deep-conditioning coils and curls for my own hair, I definitely gave her a look like she had lost her mind. As a white woman who is absolutely not sporting C4 texture, I was skeptical. A nice toning shampoo, but stains very easily
This purple shampoo from Mielle Organics is nice, but unfortunately not for me. To start, the shampoo doesn’t have any kind of seal or wrap around it to protect it. It somehow opened during shipment, and I received a bag full of bright purple shampoo. Thankfully the bottle didn’t break – I think the lid must have popped or maybe air pressure caused some of the product to leak – but I was left with a huge mess. I was able to clean the bottle off just fine, but my first impression of the shampoo was that it stained immediately. My fingers were left purple, even after washing my hands with soap multiple times, and even my white sink had some purple stains in it that I had to use some elbow grease to wash off.The shampoo itself is nice enough. It lathers fairly well, though its a sort of tight/dense lather, if that makes sense. I always double cleanse when I shampoo, and as it is with most shampoos, it lathers better the second time than it does the first. It does clean the hair well, but if your hair is particularly oily when you take a shower, I don’t think this shampoo is strong enough for that. I used this on a very oily hair day and ended up having to use a different shampoo to feel like my hair was fully clean.Of course, after using this in the shower, my fingers were again stained. The areas around my cuticles were stained purple, my fingers, even some parts under my fingernails were purple. I was able to scrub away most of the purple with a rough loofah, but even after I got out of the shower, there was a faint purple color left on my fingernails and in the grooves of my fingertips. This alone makes it a non-starter for me, as I don’t want to have to wear gloves in the shower to use a product like this, and I don’t want to deal with this level of staining.I do think it does a good job toning, and my hair felt soft and fairly moisturized after I dried and styled it. I think if you’re looking for a strong purple shampoo and are willing to use gloves (or put up with stained hands), then this product will work for you. For me, between the mess of opening it when I received it and the amount of staining it does, it’s just not for me.

The Mielle Kalahari Melon & Aloe Vera Purple Shampoo! First of all, it smells amazing and has the perfect texture—not too thick or too runny. The beautiful purple color also makes it feel like a high-quality product.For the price, you get a very generous amount of product in the bottle, which is a great value. I definitely recommend following the instructions and wearing gloves because the purple pigment can stain your hands.After using it, my hair felt very clean without feeling stripped or dry. I also noticed that it helped maintain my blonde color by reducing brassiness while leaving my hair looking shiny and healthy. I love that the sulfate-free formula is moisturizing and still provides excellent toning benefits. Overall, it keeps my color looking fresh and gives my hair a soft, radiant finish. I would definitely purchase it again!

This product arrived open and exploded in a luckily plastic bag, and getting the bottle out and cleaned along with the top was extremely messy, stained my hands purple, and was pretty toxic in nature. This product was not easy to use let alone clean up, is not supposed to dye your hands just from touching it for a few seconds, and I’m sure it’s not supposed to be reluctant to be washed away with water as it was, and the whole thing was a nightmare! I didn’t notice any fragrance and it was impossible to use, and honestly, what would happen to a person’s hands if they put this on their scalp, and their entire hands, and other skin – stain permanently bright purple? Poor moisture, de tangling, thickness, softness, anything – Your hair condition would likely suffer. I have no idea if I was given a bad batch and it certainly wasn’t supposed to explode on me, but this has a negative value for money and I wish I had never ordered it!

Strongly pigmented toning shampoo
This is a wonderfully effective toning shampoo made of quality ingredients.The formula feels wonderful on the scalp and hair, and cleanses easily and thoroughly without stripping the hair of moisture. It is fragranced, but the scent is wonderful; a clean, fruity smell that I personally love. As someone with partially bleached hair, this is already much better than my experiences with other toning shampoos. No awful perfumy scent with moisture stripped hair here.As for the toning aspect of this shampoo, it works really well for the maintenance of platinum hair, and definitely helps fight those brassy undertones. It is incredibly pigmented though, and almost feels like a direct dye in its staining power. It recommends wearing gloves during use and this isn’t to be taken lightly. It will stain your skin and the bathroom if you don’t use care. I deducted a star because I find this to be more of a hassle to use than a typical shampoo, but it does work well when I want to clean up my hair tone.
