It’s minoxidil, but the applicator makes a big difference

This is my first experience with minoxidil. I’m thinning badly on the crown of my head and that’s what minoxidil is supposed to address. There are so many different minoxidil products on the market at varying price points, so it’s hard to compare products and understand what you get for the premium prices. I did some research and it seems that minoxidil is minoxidil, and the price variance has to do with how the product is supported and cosmetic differences, such as scents and the consistency of the solution.This solution seems to have some advantages. One is that it comes with a very complete set of instructions and a good Q&A section, so you probably don’t have to contact the vendor for help. But if you do want help, they offer their website and a phone number for questions and concerns. I like that I can talk to a person if I have a question not covered by the Q&As. Another advantage is the applicator. It’s a thin tube you can place directly against the scalp so you don’t end up spraying the minoxidil on your hair and wasting it, and you don’t have to fumble with parting your hair to expose the scalp. I was concerned that applying the product would be labor intensive, but ETADERM has made the application simple.No odor, no irritation or other after effects. The applicator disperses the product evenly so nothing was running down my scalp or my neck. The product does make my hair a bit stiff, but once it’s dry, I can brush my hair and even use a styling product if needed, and the stiffness goes away.Minoxidil takes time to work, so I don’t know what my results will look like. For a single bottle of a 30-day supply with the improved applicator, this product is a fair value at the price I paid at the time of this review.

Self-locking nozzle dispenser ideal for targeting scalp underneath hair.

I’m a woman who has been using 5% minoxidil for the past 6 months, with great results. So when I saw this ETADERM product on my Vine feed, I jumped at the chance to try it.What I liked most about it was the nozzle dispenser. Other minoxidil products I’ve tried came with eyedropper-type dispensers, which I find tricky to use. But this ETADERM bottle has an ingenious, long-nosed spray nozzle perfect for targeting the scalp at the roots, which I appreciate since I still have a lot of hair. Plus, the nozzle must be unlocked for the sprayer to engage, and it automatically re-locks when you stop pressing down. It’s a more thoughtful form factor, and for that alone I would give it 5 stars.However, even though the active ingredient is the same, in the same concentration, as the 5% minoxidil I have been using, ETADERM makes a point of saying this one is for men only. Hmmm. I did some digging and realized it’s likely a marketing tactic, though there are reasons why some women may want to choose alternate minoxidil-containing formulas. I can’t opine on that, but if you’re female, you may want to google this.Oh, and if you have pets — cats especially — PLEASE google “pets and minoxidil” before using it around them. I feel this is more important than any gendered message for human users.

The price at time of ordering is $8.99 for a 2 fluid-ounce spray bottle, which is a bit cheaper than many of the alphabet brands on Amazon, and extremely inexpensive compared to the name-brand Rogaine product.While this says right on the box not to use if you’re a woman, it is the exact same ingredient as women’s minoxidil, so I’m honestly thinking this is just the “pink tax” — a marketing ploy to charge more for women’s products.The spray is odorless and goes on easily. The product states that it is specifically NOT meant for hair loss at the temples, just for the bald spot many get at the dome of their head.While the directions state to use it twice a day, I’ve read online that it’s safer for women to only use it once a day, which should avoid side effects like hair growth elsewhere. It takes at least two months, and possibly four, for any effect to be noticeable, so the jury’s out on that.I’ve noticed no ill-effects; at this point, with a thinning area on the top of my head, I’ll try anything.

Excellent applicator, no added fragrance

I’ve only been using this for a few weeks, so haven’t seen any results yet, but I also didn’t expect to by now. However, I do know that minoxidil works, and this seems like a good brand. First, I appreciate that there don’t seem to be any additional ingredients beyond the carrier for the medicine. There is no fragrance, which I’m particularly happy about, because the last brand I used had rosemary oil in it, which I understand could be helpful, but it smelled terrible, unlike this, which has just a light smell from the ingredients that dissipates as it dries.I’m also a fan of the applicator, which has a long tube that makes it easier to spray on my scalp versus on my hair. The applicator has a positive locking mechanism that requires me to push a button and turn it to unlock the sprayer. No button needs to be pressed to lock it, just turn it back to lock.As an aside, I’m a woman but minoxidil for men and women is the same, with 5% being more effective for me than 2.5%.
