    Everything I hoped it would be

    It is very heavy and solid feeling, great finish and the knurling is excellent. I shaved with it the first time today and was impressed with the performance as well. I have several vintage DE’s that I use and this is probably the first modern razor that could really give them a run for their money (vintage Gillettes are excellent razors). I’d recommend this to anyone looking for a new razor. It’s aggressive, but very smooth. The weight forces you to let the razor do the work and it delivers a great shave. Great value for the money in my opinion. One word of caution, if you aren’t familiar with using a double edged razor, take the time to re-learn how to shave before expecting incredible results. Research the topic on the internet and be patient while you learn. It’s very rewarding to switch to this kind of shaving (money savings, much better equipment, smoothest shave you’ll ever experience) but it isn’t as foolproof as the modern cartridges.

    I am really impressed with the Parker line of quality products. I recently became the proud owner of 2 Parker DE razors… The 22R (a mild TTO) and the 94R (aggressive 3 piece.) Both razors are cosmetically flawless, mechanically perfect, and visually beautiful. I also own a Feather (the “cheap” version), a Master Barber (which is a Chinese knock off), and an Edwin Jagger DE 89.I would rank these razors (by aggressiveness) as (1) Feather and Parker 22R both mild/gentle, (2) Edwin Jagger DE 89 slightly more aggressive, and (3) Parker 94R as the most aggressive. I didn’t even bother trying the Master Barber, which I purchased at a weak moment. This review (commentary) is about the Parker 94R.I LOVE IT.It is a heavy, short-handled razor… nicely balanced such that NO PRESSURE is required to get a close shave. The weight of the razor does the work. I have a feeling that if one does apply pressure, there is bleeding in the forecast. I was cautious (almost to a fault) during my first shave with this gorgeous tool and ended up with as smooth a shave as I could have hoped for.I must say that when I got my Jagger DE 89 I thought that it was the be all and end all of shavers… but I must congratulate the Parker company on their equally fine razor. So, now I’ll be rotating through 3 razors in my happy, daily routine. The Feather goes back in the box, the Master Barber goes to my son-in-law, the 2 Parkers and Jagger are the starting lineup. I do have the feeling, however, that the Parker 94R will eventually become my “go-to” razor.

    Quickly Became One Of My Top Razors

    To state it simply, this is a great razor. You will not enjoy shaving with it if you don’t know how to shave properly with a safety razor. If you’re truly interested in learning how to shave properly, this razor will let you know when you’re off. I’m not going to articulate aspects of proper technique, there are more than enough good videos and articles available on the Web. I will say that you should find a good blade (again, plenty of info on the Web) and make sure it is not passed its service life (3, 4, 5 shaves?). If you know how to shave properly, handle length and razor weight won’t make a difference in the results, only in personal preferences and aesthetics. I happen to prefer the look and feel of short, classic style handles like this. Although I have no problems with grip on any of the 30 razors I’ve used (again technique is key), the knurling on this razor’s handle looks and feels great. It is not as finely finished as some razors, but it is nowhere near shabby either. I have put it’s sister razor, the 97R, on my Christmas list.My razor was sold by Super Safety Razors and fulfilled by Amazon. I am very impressed with the seller as I have received two e-mails from them. The first was to let me know that the razor had shipped and to reply if I had any issues. The second was a follow-up to make sure I was happy with the purchase. I would suggest that if you buy this razor and don’t like it, try purchasing a much less aggressive razor and put this one aside. After a few weeks or months, use it for one shave every so often and see how it is. If you start to like it, it means your technique is improving and you will be rewarded with some great shaves.

    The handle is good, excellent grip

    This safety razor is of decent quality, it’s not as shiny as the Edwin Jagger but it’s not really the looks that matter. The handle is good, excellent grip. If you’re planning on using this as a head shaver, I would not recommend it, it’s too harsh on the skin, leaves bumps, razor burn and nicks on your head. It does do a good job on shaving face but I prefer the Edwin Jagger.

    Pretty good if you know what you are doing

    This razor is pretty good but I don’t love it. (I do love it, see update below) Just a bit harsh for me. I’ve been bouncing back and forth between a DE89 and a Futur set on 1 for many years now. This Parker feels like the Futur cranked open to about 4. I can use it without cutting myself and get a very close shave without razor burn, but I can do that with my others with more speed and less caution. If you like an aggressive razor, this may be perfect for you. If you are a beginner, either be very careful or consider something less aggressive like a DE89.On to the razor itself. The chrome is OK, but not as sweet as the DE89 or Futur. Chrome seems thinner and not as ‘liquid’ looking. I see tool marks and specs in the base metal. Nothing serious, it looks fine, but my others are clearly nicer when compared. Knurling is very aggressive. No amount of soap or oil could make this slip in your hand. It is like a wood rasp. Seriously, you could chuck the handle in your drill and shape wood with it. Blade gap, although wide, is perfectly even and equal. As others mentioned the handle feels a little sloppy as you tighten it down. Its fine once its tight. Overall a good razor for someone looking more toward the aggressive side, but beware if this is your first venture into double edge shaving.Update: The cautions above still hold, but after a year of using this I really love it. Still very aggressive, but I get a nice close shave with little effort. I especially enjoy it in the summer. My face sweats a lot when I work outside and if my shave doesn’t last all day, I’ll have towel lint stuck in my stubble, haha. This razor delivers a shave that lasts.

    Have used safety razors for long time. Was not satisfied with all the new hitech ones and decided to go back. This is one aggressive razor. With a new blade be super careful. Took some time to readjust and now I am very comfortable using it. Even then I don’t use it for travel since I will get cuts and nicks if I am not careful. This is my go to for weekend shaving.     The Parker 94R”Hefty” Double Edge Safety Razor really has a lovely heft and weight to it! I am what I would consider an intermediate safety razor user- I’ve used several different DE safety razors to date and have a regular shaving routine established in which I know what I’m doing and almost never nick my skin.My choice of blades are Astra superior platinums and I have used them with every razor I’ve used.The 94R has a well knurled handle that really “bites” into your skin to get a great grip! The only disadvantage is that possibly over a long period of time, dirt MAY settle into the deep grooves of the knurling, which could probably easily be cleaned with a toothbrush and soap and water.The chrome finish looks really high end, and even the 2 piece head is completely coated to prevent rusting. The blade alignment is also very good, rarely needing readjusting to straighten the blade.This razor is a great value! No need to put any pressure on this handle, the heavy weight works all on its own!

    Beautiful, quality razor, too aggressive for daily shaving

    The quality and finish of this razor is remarkable. Parker really knows what they’re doing. If the 94r were made in a western country, it would likely cost much more. I can imagine some users may find this razor too blocky and heavy while others will praise how solid it is. You be the judge. It’s a tank, though, for sure.My one complaint about this razor is that I wish it was just slightly less aggressive. This thing has a huge gap and a lot of blade exposure. You really need to exercise care and use a blade that is not too sharp; like a Derby, Merkur or Dorco. The good news is that 94r is on the lower end of very aggressive. It’s not quite a grizzly bear, more like a bobcat. Still, it bites deeper than your average Merkur, Edwin Jagger or Gilletter Super Speed. It’s about on par with a Gillette Red Tip or an adjustable set on level 5.If you’re a daily shaver, I would not recommend this razor; not unless you’re the kind of guy that grows a 2 day beard in 24 hours. If you shave 3 days a week, the 94r would be perfect. If you shave every morning, you might tear up your face with this.

    My journey as a wet shaver (and product review)

    I started wet-shaving with BSC’s Precision safety razor. I used it in aggressive clamp and I used to get good shaves with feather blades. The BSC razor didn’t perform well for me with any other milder blade.I always liked the classic appeal of a short handled razor and I wanted either a parker 87r or 94r. After reading a few bad reviews for 87r I scratched it off my wish list and purchased 94R. Btw I couldn’t come across a bad review for this razor which gave me confidence to purchase this razor.Since I read that it’s an aggressive razor I didn’t wanna try it for the first time with a feather. I used a Gillette wilkinson sword blade for my first use of this razor and I was pleasantly surprised.While my BSC razor couldn’t give good results with milder blades, this razor gave me an effortlessly close shave with that blade. It didn’t even feel like the blade I am using is a mild one. I feel in love with this razor at the very moment. I have used it several times now with Wilkinson Swords and now I’ll try sharper blades with this razor to see how it goes.BSC razor gave me decent shaves and I thought that’s the best I can get but this razor is better and gives me better shaves. BBS in areas where my previous razor had troubles getting me baby smooth. Wow, I am so impressed.Now let’s talk about the build quality, it’s definitely a step up in terms of build quality. The weight is amazing and heavier than BSC. And I can’t emphasise enough on how well balanced this razor is. Having a short handle and thicker neck and head, it’s not bottom heavy and has simply the perfect balance. Shaving is easier for me using a short handle razor because of it’s manoeuvrability. The knurling is amazing and you have grip for days, no worries there.JK International is a reliable and respectful seller in India and no one should hesitate in purchasing anything from them. Bhavana have replied to my queries before purchase and always gave me a satisfactory response.Other than this I have purchased a Bay Rum shaving soap from them and I will post a review on it soon.I don’t know if anything’s left to say here, the razor is too good for me. I’m a very happy wet shaver with this in my den. Go for it!And I recommend this razor to beginners as well. Use it with a milder blade and you’re good go. Master your technique and upgrade to a sharper blade. Don’t waste money trying budget razors and straight away get something which you’ll be proud of and won’t feel like upgrading soon. BSC satisfied me for a few weeks or months and then I felt like upgrading. They have a decent kit with average products imo.I upgraded my razor with this one. I upgraded my brush to a Trigodon brush and OMG it’s the best Brush available in india. I liked BSC creme initially but I gave it away as soon as I tried trigodon shaving soap (it’s too good to be true).So like I said. You can either get basic products from BSC to try to go for the creme of the crop my using Parker and Trigodon.Good luck to all wet-shavers out there.
