I ordered this shaving bowl because my old ceramic one looked really out of place on the bathroom countertop. Happily, my wife was impressed with the look of this one as soon as I took it out of the box. The lid is a plus, as well- I can close the bowl and set my shaving brush on top, which saves space.I was initially hesitant about using a wooden shaving bowl, since if the finish isn’t good, wood can get waterlogged and mildew. After a month and a half of use, though, I can safely state the finish is high quality and makes the bowl perfectly waterproof- and I shave in the shower, so it does get wet.One note- there was a chip out of the laquer on the inside lip of the lid, which is why I only give this product four stars. Fortunately, I don’t take the lid into the shower, and the imperfection is not visible when the lid is in place, so it didn’t affect me much. If you get this bowl, you may want to inspect it carefully before using it, to make sure the interior of the bowl itself has no similar imperfections.

Nice bowl
As I was just getting into wet shaving, I thought it would be great to have a nice looking, water resistant bowl to keep my shaving cream/soap in. I still love the bowl and I use it every day, but I have found that many good quality shaving creams/soaps come in fairly nice packaging where you can use the bowl that they came in. Great bowl, but not really necessary.

Value Is Questionable
The quality of this product for the price that I paid for it is questionable. Anything at or above $25 is not worth it, as I purchased this at $16, it may be worth it. Value is a ratio of the cost, or price, to the quality of the product (V=Q/C). The product is of good size, with an O.D of 4in. and an I.D. of 3.25in. The lid fits well and the shape of it has a good feel. The bottom is not completely flat as it wobbles very slightly on a flat marble surface.The big problem is in the finish. The stain is somewhat irregular, very thin in some areas, but what is worse is the lacquer coating. It looks as if it was very quickly sprayed on in a single pass. Very thin in most areas and non existent in others, which is a serious problem. Without good lacquer coverage, the soap bowl will not be adequately sealed, which will allow water to penetrate the wood and rot it. And in the environment that it is intended to be used in, a wet environment such as a bathroom/shower, it is totally unacceptable.Because I purchased this for $16 and free shipping, I kept it and applied 2 coats of polyeurethane to completely seal the wood. If you purchase this, I recommend that you do the same, otherwise, it will not last and worse it will allow the ingress and growth of bacteria.

Old School and nice
I chose to switch from shaving jell because last couple of Gillette shaving jell cans last the pressure and I was stuck with a full unusable can. Therefore, I decided to go old school brush and soap. Did little research and learned that wet shaving is better for your skin, closer shave, less ingrown hair.This little soap dish will complete your set, looks much better then some cheap Chinese plastic.

Nice shaving bowl
Came as advertised. Works well, seems to have stayed water resistant through several weeks of use so far. I would not recommend it for people used to using a shaving cup though, as the bowl is kind of shallow when compared to a cup, and some of the foam can start to spill over the sides. Also because of the shallowness of the bowl, you can only store a small bar of soap inside between uses. I use the Taylor of old Bond street shaving cream, and that container was way too big to fit into the bowl, which was somewhat disappointing, but no big deal. Overall, a great deal for the price.

Too small for most shave soap pucks
Not sure what I was expecting, but it wasn’t this. The lid won’t fit on when you put a decent sized soap puck into it. Also keep in mind that this is not a brush bowl, far too small for that purpose. It’s just for storing a small puck and priming your brush. If you’re buying pucks that will fit this, then awesome, it will look great on your vanity. I’ll not return it, but I’m using it for fresh blade storage.
