    Highly Recommended

    I have tried this a couple of times since I purchased and so far I’d say it’s worth it. It smells like coconuts, and leaves your hair super soft. I liked it so much I have started using just a pea size amount on my hair right out of the shower. It makes your hair so shiny and soft. I’m in my pool all the time and this definitely helps make hair brushing after getting out a breeze.

    Not effective

    Super expensive for the quantity received, but I thought it would be worth it to deal with my daughter’s absolute mess of hair after swimming. First off, you have to put it on at least 10 minutes before swimming… My daughter has a lot of hair so it takes A LOT of this product to saturate her hair. We’ve done it just as directed before she swimming and I have to say it makes absolutely no difference in the shape of her hair afterwards.. it’s still super tangled and hard to comb throug. The product does smell good but that’s about all I can say for it.

    Love this product so much!!! I hate going to the beach and getting my hair wet with sea water because the rest of my trip my hair feels brittle. My hair was the most manageable it’s ever been on a beach trip! I put this on every day after I came in from the beach after my shower on my damp hair. The next day my hair was soft, no frizz, and ready to go. I would get in the water and because my hair was protected my hair felt so soft the whole time swimming at the beach!!! I also didn’t have to style my hair with a heat iron for dinner every night! It smelled so good too!!! The price is totally worth it!

    Worked Great!

    I was in the ocean swimming and snorkeling and worked great! I have long hair. I struggle with tangles and build up every time we go on vacation. This product made my hair feel supper soft and no tangles. Smelled really good and very moisturizing.

    Did I Pay Mostly For Packaging?

    For reference, I swim in a chlorinated (also uses salt) pool, outdoors, year-round. My hair is wavy-curly, tends toward needing moisture, and is fine but thick. I do not wear a swim cap. I always wet my hair, apply a swim/sun protecting conditioner, and “pineapple” or pigtail my hair. I have used a variety of pre-swim hair protecting conditioners (and one oil). I decided to treat my hair to Coastal Grl Pre-Swim Conditioner at this time of the year (August) because I’m in the pool even more than usual and for longer periods of time. I’ll give you my impression of the product: It is costly. The conditioner came packaged very well, looks swank and nice, cute & catchy, and I’m thinking that a substantial part of the cost is for the packaging and for the solid, attractive container, more than for the product itself. The scent is one I can best describe as “deeply strong coconut with a slight other tropical-ish fragrance.” The scent is okay; not my favorite, since I’ve smelled other fragrances I prefer, but nice. So I have been using Coastal Grl Pre-Swim as I usually use them (wet hair, thoroughly apply product, swim, shampoo & rinse). I noticed right away that the product doesn’t stay on my hair for long; it simply washes off in the pool. That was very disappointing. I shampoo my hair immediately after swimming and found that it seemed fairly conditioned (soft). I do use purple conditioners or Maria Nila Pearl Silver mask a couple of times/week for my very light hair (not color-treated otherwise). Coastal Grl didn’t do anything to stop color fade; my hair came out slightly yellow and will need purple conditioner next wash. This product is thick, which is good; besides that, the price is very high for a product that does not seem to be one bit better than Aqua Guard is. Coastal Grl would likely be a good product for conditioning after shampooing but, again, at an high cost. To call it a pre-swim that is as good as wearing a swim cap is more than a stretch of truth. I’ll probably finish the bottle I have, then will definitely return to Aqua Guard.**ETA**I’ve used Coastal Grl for quite a while now. I gave it 1 additional star than I had given it because I am finding that I need to use only a small amount of the product to completely coat my hair, as the product is very thick. Coastal Grl would make a lovely gift for a swimmer, mostly because the packaging is quite special. It definitely has not protected my hair from color fade. It has kept my hair soft (which actually drags out the natural curl some, but keeps it healthier, overall). As for the rest of my original review I’m not changing anything.

    Smells great and keeps hair from tangling

    I was very skeptical about this product, but it actually worked! I used it on dry hair before going in the pool. It smelled amazing and after the pool I was able to run my fingers through silky hair. I then tested it with ocean water. I actually didn’t put it on before going in the water, but I used it afterward to remove snarls and it worked so easily! Love this product and will recommend it to anyone!

    Great product! Not great price.

    The coastal grl pre-swim hair protectant is a new staple for me. The fragrance is that of a pina colada and is anything but discrete. I attached an image of what my hair looks like after applying it, before swimming. It’s a heavy product that made my hair look and feel a little greasy. Please note that if you touch your hair your hands will feel a little oily. Moving on to the real purpose of this product… how does it feel in and out of the water. While in the water, my hair feels very smooth and doesn’t tangle. I can leave my hair down and it’s not getting knotted or tangled, I can run my fingers through my hair and it not pull or snag. The effectiveness of the product once out of the water is equally as great! My hair doesn’t look knotted and looks like I got out of the shower instead of out of the pool or ocean. I washed my hair with the VERB ghost shampoo and conditioner and my hair was so glossy and smooth for hours that it looked like I spent hours on it instead of just finished a swim and brushed it.Please note, if you are looking for scalp protection against chlorine, this product is not a good fit. This product helps the length of your hair and that’s IT. The lack of scalp protection and the price are ultimately why I cannot give this product a five star review. The price is excessive for what you get. Not everyone can afford such an expensive product meant only for swimming. I took me a lot of product to cover my medium/long hair and I feel that the price is not sustainable for people who will be using the product more than once a week.
