    Old dad human review

    This razor is all metal, no plastic.Not pulling microplastics across my face.Yes it requires some effort over convenience.Requires getting good angles to get an acceptable shave.Note: Used a rubber grip from a disposable pen, slid up half way on handle.This fixed how slippery when your hands get wet.Overall a nice heavy duty razor, years of service to come.

    Feels expensive, but takes some getting used to

    I think this razor was fine, but I prefer the Gillette power razors I’ve been using for over a decade now. I like the feel and thickness of it and that it has a trimmer blade touch up my sideburns and goatee. With this flyedge, you don’t get that trimmer and it’s not as streamlined to change out the blades. Or at least I wouldn’t try to change it in the shower. With the Gillette, I just have to push the razor handle in to the razor holder until it snaps in. This razor gives off that old school look to it. Because the handle is all metal, it can get a bit slippery when wet. I do like the weight of though. It definitely does not feel cheap at all and feels of good quality.

    Good quality, good finish. Doesn’t shave as close as expected, but it is good for a safety razor.I wish it had a pivoting head.

    Has Some Flaws For Me

    I will start with the positives. This razor feels substantial. The handle is attractive and well balanced. The base to hold it on the counter is heavy and will not tip over easily, and it is also very attractive. But my problems with this razor is that I do not like the magnetic mechanism that holds the blade in place. It did not feel secure to me. This could be because I have never operated a magnetic head razor, perhaps my distrust is because it is novel to me. I could get past that with repeated use, but the fatal flaw is that it gives a rough shave in my opinion. This is a shaver that is going to require a lot of shaving cream to get anything approaching a smooth shave, and I wouldn’t trust it in the shower (I like shaving in the shower).

    Great

    I like the look and feel of this razor. It’s hefty and feels very sturdy. I was nervous about the magnetic blade holder, but it doesn’t have any wiggle that I notice. I haven’t used a dual bladed safety razor like this before, so this is a novel idea for me, and I do like the option of being able to load two blades for a closer shave or keep it to a single blade if needed.

    High-end look meets a slippery reality

    This was my first time ever attempting to use a traditional safety razor, and it turned out to be a mixed bag of pro and con. The razor itself feels exceptional in the hand; it’s weighty, solid, and just has that feel of expensive. It comes with a matching metal stand that shares that same premium feel. Loading the single blade into the magnetic loading system was easy and once locked in place, it felt secure mid-shave.Once you actually get it to skin, the built-in roller bar acts as a guard against digging too deep while simultaneously rolling the blade smoothly across the top of your skin. The glide is so incredibly gentle and graceful that I actually had to check it on my arm just to verify that it was, in fact, cutting hair. It was.As a woman, the true test of any razor’s precision is how it handles the terrain of knees and ankles. Here I’d give it a solid B. Maintaining the required 45-degree shaving angle while navigating the contours of a leg was difficult. While I didn’t escape completely nick-free, I didn’t feel that the closeness of the shave was any better than a standard multi-blade plastic razor. The other area I was less than impressed by was its ergonomics while in use. The beautifully polished, perfectly round barrel handle looks gorgeous, but it offers zero grip. The moment your hands get wet and soapy in the shower, the smooth metal starts shifting and twisting out of position. To make matters worse, the shaving head screws onto the handle rather than being a permanent, solid weld. Because the handle kept slipping in my wet grip, the twisting motion actually began unscrewing the razor head mid-shave.Maybe this is a razor that just requires a lot more practice and a much drier environment. While I love the premium feel, the massive stack of included blades, and the eco-friendly lack of plastic waste, the ergonomics and execution make it a bit too high-maintenance for a quick shower routine. Standard brand cartridges still offer a simpler, closer, and less slippery shave, even if they look a lot less fancy sitting on the counter.

    My favorite old-school razor so far.

    This feels like a $50 razor. When I opened the box, I had to double check that the list price was actually under $30. The whole unit is built out of a polished, sturdy stainless steel with convenient grip grooves built in and has a nice weight in your hands. It can configurably hold between one and two blades, and has a nice safety roller bar below the blades that actually works well. It comes with a nice stand that is properly designed; it has a rubber washer ring on the bottom for grip and a drain hole in the middle to prevent water from pooling when you put a wet razor back into the stand. It comes with a pack of 100 paper-thin blades which will last a very long time. The blades cut well (although you will want shaving cream). The head cover has a nice contour on the back which perfectly slots around the shaft when you retract the cover to perform blade maintenance. Overall, this was designed and built very well and with good materials.I only have two complaints with this razor:* When the blades come out of the packaging, they have some sort of paper/glue residue on them. This washes off and doesn’t seem to influence their use.* The head attaches to the shaft just by screwing in. Out of the box, it wasn’t screwed in super tightly, so when I started shaving features where more pressure was applied to one side of the razor than the other, the head started to rotate. This meant the blades started moving sideways and created conditions where I could have cut myself if I hadn’t noticed what was happening. I tightened the head up, and after that, it didn’t move during the rest of the shave. Hopefully it doesn’t loosen up again over time. I’ll update this review if that becomes a problem.

    Don’t Bother With This Razor

    I was very disappointed in this razor.First, the blade are paper thin and half the width of a normal razor blade. The box has 100 blades in it and they are hard to remove from the box without taking out a bunch of them. You need to unwrap the blade which is wrapped in paper. They you need to do this twice to place both blades in the razor.Once I got the razor ready to shave, I did not get a close shave at all.You get a much better shave from a disposable razor without the hassle. I can not recommend this shaver.
