I can’t express how happy I am to have found this henna. It’s affordable, easy to work with, and effective, plus it provides long-lasting color even over grays. I use this henna with this company’s indigo to achieve my perfect shade: a rich brown with a hint of auburn. That’s right: your hair does not have to be bright red if you dye your hair with henna!For two years I used Lush Cacas and a couple other powdered hennas, but this brand is by far the best. If you are reading this and currently use Lush, you are in for a pleasant surprise. No more melting cubes on the stove, no more making a huge mess while applying, and no more coffee grinds all over your shower. Instead, this henna mixes easily and simply glides onto your hair. I apply mine at the bathroom sink and there is no mess to clean up afterwards. It’s a total relief after all of those sloppy sessions with Lush. This henna’s color also lasts much longer than Lush.Also, unlike other “BAQ” hennas online, Silk and Stone henna does not need to be mixed and set out overnight. This is because the henna is fresh. So just mix it with indigo, apply it immediately, and let the henna sit on your hair for a couple of hours. The process could not be easier.About my hair, for the first time in years it is noticeably shiny. The strands are glossy and strong – it’s very rare that my hair breaks when using rubberbands or being brushed. In fact, I even lose a lot less hair in the shower since switching to this henna.To achieve my color, I use 3 parts henna + 1 part indigo. I touch up my roots as needed and then occasionally do an all-over application. This process keeps my color even-toned and lovely.Update: I am sorry to say that I’ve stopped using indigo/henna all together. As my grays became more numerous, I was having to do my roots more often (3 weeks) and I could not handle the time commitment. I also noticed that the indigo caused my hair to become darker and darker, almost to the point of black.I went to stylist who tried to bleach out the indigo/henna and it was a nightmare! My hair turned green and became so brittle it broke off several inches. The stylist had to dye my hair black to cover the discoloration and I’ve been growing it out since then. Right now my hair is light brown on top and pure black on the bottom. If I could reverse time, I would not do indigo/henna again. I think it’s great for younger people with little gray, but not for older people with grays.

This is such a great product! I bought it to use on my hair and this is the henna I will continue to buy! This gave my hair a really bright copper color that I have been trying to achieve with chemical dyes. I didn’t think it was extremely messy to apply.! It had a very earthy smell but by no means did I think it smelled bad. If you are used to dying your hair with lots of chemical dyes this will be a breath of fresh air! No more toxic fumes!I mixed my henna with chamomile tea and a squeeze of lemon juice. I kept it on for 6 hours and then followed it up with an overnight mask of olive oil. I cant remember the last time my hair has ever felt this soft or healthy. My ends are usually always dried out and I end up with a tangles mess when I try to blow dry. Now I was able to blow dry with ease!My color is bright and bold. This is the color I have been searching for!Overall I am beyond thrilled with this product and will continue to purchase it! Price is great and shipping was fast!***UPDATE***I ordered two more packages of this and have done a second all over application a week or so ago. This time I put it on in the evening and slept with it overnight. I love how soft and shiny my hair is after using this! My color is still really great, slightly deeper than the first time. I will probably do one more full application in the next month or so to get an even deeper color. I can’t imagine ever using anything else on my hair. If you are looking to get your hair some shade of red…. DEFINITELY try this! (Though, I cant imagine it showing up great in extremely dark brown or black hair). Great Product!!
This is my first time using this brand. I usually use Lush cacao. As a previous poster said before; this henna is far different from the Lush henna. It is much easier to use and a lot less messy. I mixed my henna with lemon juice, honey and olive oil. It went on smooth as silk and was very easy to get out. I mixed it the night before and let it sit. You could see the dye release the next day. Application was a breeze and after sleeping on my henna head; washing out the next day was completely painless and easy. At first I didn’t notice any color change. I was going to give it three stars because of the fine sift and ease of application, but after 24 hours I did see color. I suppose it needed time to cure. I am African American with dark brown hair. Usually with the Lush line, I do see color right away even in low light, but I didn’t see anything with this henna. I was disappointed but decided to see if the color needed a little time to set. Sure enough I could see the color in the light the next day. It’s a nice dark auburn/mahogany looking red that as the days pass is easier to see. My hair feels fantastic! Soft shiny and full. I used half of the original package and I’ll use the other half later this week. I already purchased another box for when I henna next month. Belive me. This henna is very good, easy to work with, doesn’t have a really bad smell and leaves your hair feeling and looking amazing! I would definitely buy again ! As a matter of fact I already did!

Poor product and Silk & Stone Inc poor customer satisfaction
Terrible experience with the product and the company: Silk & Stone Inc. I followed the instructions and then used it to find that the color bleeds! What a horrible mess. I contacted the company and we had to write several emails back and forth and all Silk & Stone had to say was keep it, do not return it just adjust the recipe and continue to use it. Believe me, I could not find one volunteer to allow me to use this product on them after seeing the color bleeding problem on the other two!! For example here is one of the emails they sent me: Another thing to keep in mind is that on a hot or humid day, you should make your paste a little drier and on a dry day, just a little runnier. On hotter, humid days or when the body is quite warm, the henna can run just a little bit more since there is more moisture. The company is not interested in CUSTOMER SATISFACTION!! Buyer beware, your buying this product at your own risk.Please know I purchased a lot from Amazon over the last decade and this is the very first time I have ever had to write a review so that must tell you this product has issues and the company Silk & Stone Inc are not customer friendly!!

Easy to Rinse Out
This brand was easy to rinse out and the color is nice, but other than how well it stained my ears, I don’t find it much superiour to the Daiso brand henna I have been using for a while. I think the rinsing wasn’t too awful because the powder is so fine, but it also made the preparation dry in my hair faster than I’m used to while I was dying it, so that was very annoying and inconvenient. I don’t know if it was worth the money, since I found body art quality henna, which is also a fine grind, from a local Indian grocer for $3. I will update when I use the other stuff.As for methodology, I mix with rice water and half a lemon, then I freeze it. That way, I don’t have to worry about leaving the mix out so long the dye starts to deteriorate. Plus, I think the color comes out better with dye that’s been frozen. Do yourself a favor and check out the Henna for Hair website if you’d like to understand how henna works. The woman who runs it did her PhD on henna.UPDATED 12/26/17: Ok, so this stuff is really nice. Terrible to use in the summer, because the fine grind means it dries too quickly, but I did a full hair treatment last week (normally I only do my roots) using a frozen batch I had forgotten about, and my hair looks great. Rinsing was SUPER easy, which it wasn’t with other brands I have purchased. Normally getting henna out of my waist-length hair is a colossal nightmare, but not with this brand. My ears and forehead were orange for a day or two despite the fact that I oil my face to prevent staining, so it is very effective on skin.

Very pleased with this henna powder!!! After using a simple Kiss recipe for the very first time (have never made henna paste before), I was slightly unsure of the peak of dye release and did a test finger (first pic) 8 hours after mixing. Wrapped my finger with tissue once dry, placed my cone in the freezer, and went to bed. Continued on with my design on my hand after thawing the next morning, and waited a few hours to see the results. My finger stained ok, but the rest of the hand was not as intense after the same amount of time on– had me a bit disappointed and thinking the powder wasn’t good. I jumped the gun though– tried a slight variation with my next batch 2 days later and paid more attention to the ratios and consistency. Didn’t bother sifting this time, and waited until the first sign of dye release (about 4 hours) and started on my foot. Used a lemon juice & sugar mixture to keep it moist (I think this made A LOT of difference), and 6 hours later came out with a nice, deep color! I recommend playing around with recipes and timing for beginners like myself– I’m purposely doing very small batches to find the sweet spot! For reference, first two pictures are during drying, and in the last I’m on day 3 for the finger and day 1 on the foot!

Amazing, great for kinkier textures too!
This is the finest ground henna I’ve used to date! I highly recommend it for all hair types. I have kinky/curly coarse hair (type 4 a/b/c). I used it as a hair mask by mixing 200g with 13.5 oz of coconut milk in a glass bowl with a spoon. Henna can be drying and I already have dry hair naturally so I applied it in dirty hair (as clean hair would be toolstripped of natural oils) and coconut milk, which makes a mixture much more moisturizing than water alone. Once that was mixed well I leveled the paste and poured 3/4 cup of water on top, I did not mix the water in just let it sit on top, then covered the bowl so it’s airtight. Let it sit for a day for color release, then uncover and mix in the water that’s still sitting on top. You will notice the water is now orange-red. I mixed with the blender using a whisk attachment till creamy smooth, no lumps, and it was the consistency of cake batter or whipped Greek yogurt (not runny). The smoother you get it the easier it will be to rinse in out in the end. Then using gloves and wearing an old t-shirt (as henna stains) I applied the mixture to my hair starting in the center (crown) in sections about 2″x2″ (just keep them small) to make sure all strands get coated. As you finish each section add it to a bun on top of your head. In the end there should be one bun on top. After applying I wrapedmyhead with Saran Wrap, two shower caps, and a scarf and went to bed. I left it in 12 hours but 4 is all you need for a great dye job or even 2-3 for great conditioning. I rinsed using only conditioner and did not shampoo. Henna cleanses hair. Once it’s as rinsed out as I could get it with cheap conditioner, I deep conditioned with TGIN deep conditioner and sweet almond oil for at least 30 mins under plastic cap. After rinsing, my hair felt amazing, even before the deep conditioning my curls were the best defined I have ever seen them. I usually have a horrid time detangling but even with nothing on my hair it’s a noticeable difference. I have dark brown hair, no chemicals or dyes before the henna and the color stain is a very pretty auburn color. The picture I’m including is my hair with henna in (so you can see the bun method) and after henna but still wet with conditioner inside. I highly recommend trying this! It will be a staple every 8-10 weeks for me.
