Not a perfect formula, but left my hair soft and hydrated!

This was my first time trying anything from Spa Ceylon, and honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The name felt familiar when I saw it on Amazon, but I realized I’d never actually used any of their products before. The brand itself comes from Sri Lanka and has a reputation for blending Ayurvedic traditions with natural ingredients, which is something I always find interesting because it shows they’re trying to marry heritage with self-care in a more mindful way.Now, onto the mask. At $22 for a 5-ounce tube, it does feel a little on the pricier side compared to other masks I’ve used that usually come in larger jars. That said, I liked the packaging because it comes in a squeeze tube, which feels a lot less messy than having to scoop product out of a tub with wet hands. The mask itself is very thick, so it stays put in your hair without dripping everywhere, and it definitely smells like coconut right out of the tube. The scent leans more natural and not the overly sweet, fake coconut scent that some products have. Here’s where things got tricky for me…once I started using it in the shower, there was another scent that pushed through. To me, it smelled a bit like rancid oil. I checked the ingredients and saw olive oil listed, which I’m pretty sure is what I was picking up on. I don’t know if it’s that I’m just sensitive to it or maybe I received a bad batch, but it did take away from the overall in-shower experience. I’ve had this happen with a few other hair products, and it always makes me shy away from them because I do care about how a hair mask smells as well as how it performs.Now, performance-wise, the directions suggest shampooing, lightly drying your hair, and then applying the mask for 15 minutes before rinsing. I don’t have the patience to jump in and out of the shower like that, so I just wrung out my hair really well, clipped it up with the mask in, and went about the rest of my shower routine. At first rinse, I honestly wasn’t impressed. My hair didn’t feel soft or particularly conditioned. It almost felt a little rougher than I expected. I was going to apply my usual post shower hair products to help deliver some extra moisture, but I forgot to do that. So, imagine my surprise when I discovered that my hair felt completely different after it air dried. It was soft, silky, and smooth with zero tangles, and my ends felt much more hydrated than it did immediately post shower. I also know how my hair feels when I air dry it, and it’s definitely not that soft or smooth, so I can definitely attribute the difference it to the mask.Another thing I liked is that even though the mask is on the heavier, creamier side, it didn’t weigh down my thick, coarse hair at all. If you have fine hair, this might be something to keep in mind since it could feel a little too rich, but for my hair type, it struck the right balance. Additionally, even though I wasn’t crazy about the way it smelled during application, that scent didn’t linger in my hair afterward. Once my hair was dry, there was no weird oil smell…just soft, healthy-feeling strands.This is a case where the post shower experience definitely changed my opinion of this hair mask. If I had based this review, solely on my in-shower experience, then this review definitely would’ve read very differently. As such, I’m glad I gave it more time because I ended up being pleased with the outcome. For me, it’s worth a solid four stars.

moisturizing

This deep conditioning cream is quite a powerhouse! It feels a little oily after rinsing, but it’s quickly absorbed by the hair. It left my hair feeling soft and shiny, and it has a nice light coconut scent. I would advise you to know how your skin reacts to coconut oil though, as it can be comedogenic. Trust me, you don’t want acne on your scalp. I’d say use it as a once a week deep conditioner rather than a daily treatment.

Helped with my dried out ends

My hair has taken a hit over the summer. Lots of pool days and living in the south has equaled a frizzy dried out mess. I applied this masque in the shower and left it over for a few minutes. The consistency is a tad thicker than most hair conditioners. I do have thin fine hair, so greasiness is always a concern with these type of products, but it didn’t leave a film on it. The coconut scent was light. My hair came out soft and shiny. It worked well, but lost a star because of cost. It’s a little pricey compared to others I’ve purchased in the past.

Love this conditioner

I LOVE this conditioner!! Bottom line: it made my hair noticeably smoother and shinier. I have used so many salon brands, and this is up there with the best! The smell is very coconut – I like that, but if not, just know that it does smell like coconut. It does a great job detangling and keeps my hair manageable, shiny, and smooth. The bottle also feels fancy, and dispenses the cream easily. Ingredients look good from what I can tell.Only downside is that the bottle is on the smaller side, but the price is extremely reasonable, so not a problem. I’ve attached a photo of the conditioner on my fingers so you can see the consistency, as well as my hair just after washing and drying (no flat iron or style, so some fly aways, but overall shiny and smooth).I will continue using and repurchasing this product, definitely recommend!
