The Wahl Shave Cream That Converted Me Into A Real Grown Up Shaver
I used to think all shaving creams were basically the same. Heck I used to think warm water and soap was good enough and honestly for years I shaved like a man who had given up on skin care entirely. Then you come across a product like this Wahl USA Mens Shave Cream and suddenly you realize oh wow maybe my face deserved better all along.This stuff really does make a difference. It goes on easy. It’s not greasy. It doesnt feel like you’re smearing mayonnaise on your face which is always a plus. It lets me get a really close shave with my strip blade razor and I mean close close. The kind of close where you touch your cheek afterward and think well hello there smooth stranger.It lathers nicely which I appreciate because some creams pretend to lather but really just sit there looking confused. This one actually does the job. And it washes off real nicely too which is important because I dont need to spend ten minutes trying to get shaving cream off my ears. It makes your face tingle in all the right ways not in the scary chemical burn way but in the oh this feels kind of fancy way.It smells good. It feels good. It’s paraben free dye free cruelty free which makes me feel like a better person even though I’m just standing in my bathroom trying not to nick my chin. It’s a little pricey but honestly I think it’s worth it. You’re paying for the brand and the quality and something that actually reduces irritation and razor burn instead of pretending to.The container is easy to travel with although the lid is not the tightest thing in the world so if you toss it in a bag maybe give it a little extra twist unless you want your belongings to smell like shave cream which honestly wouldnt be the worst thing but still.Overall I think it’s quality. I think it’s a good value. And I think if you’ve been shaving like a caveman with soap and hope this might be the upgrade your face has been begging for.

This Wahl shave cream does not do it for me. Several reasons: It really isn’t a cream but rather more the consistency of a paste. No matter how much/ little water I mix it with it does not become a slick coating on your face to shave with.After trying it out for a week I also found I needed to use more of the cream than I’m accustomed to with the Cremo I’ve been using.I have to rate low as for its poor lubricating of my beard for shaving. I would end up with numerous missed hairs that would require a second shave, which is something I almost never do. However I do rate it high for ease of rinsing off and how it leaves your face feeling.I’ve been shaving with disposable 3 blade Gillette razors that have the lubricating strip across the top for a number of years now. I’m happy with the results but am always looking for a better shaving cream to use. And I’ve tried a few, some expensive and some more reasonably priced. Even some cheap ones. Gel foams I gave up on years ago.The blade of course is an important part of the end result, and it’s important to get a blade/cream combo that works for you. For my beard I’ve found that the disposal razor gives me a good shave….. as long as I use a cream that is SLICK, SMOOTH, and LUBRICATES the skin but rinses easily and gives a non-irritating shave. And unfortunately this Wahl shave cream doesn’t do that. Cremo does… but it too clogs the razor blades, and does not rinse easily.As far as the price goes I am more interested in getting a good product. One that fits my beard as well as my shave schedule. Not being wealthy person tho I do have to consider price.The blades I get in a 30 pak box usually for around 30 bucks. So my cost is a dollar per week or 50 bucks a year roughly which isn’t bad.The cost difference is minimal between this Wahl shave cream vs Cremo so I don’t see that as an issue. Although I will point out that the Wahl tube not only is smaller, you use more product when shaving so just keep that in mind.Simply stated this product falls short of checking all the boxes for me. I gave it 3 stars because it falls right in the middle… not a terrible product, but falls short in key areas.I’m going to pass on this.

Protects from razor burn but texture isn’t foamy or creamy.
I have tried a lot of different shaving creams over the years. For me, I need something that protects my sensitive skin while also working well with either a cartridge razor or an electric rotary (I use both). I previously settled on Cremo Sensitive as the best cream I could find for a reasonable price. I hadn’t tried Wahl’s cream though so I was eager to compare it to Cremo Sensitive.The thing I liked most about this shaving cream is that it really does a good job protecting my face. I would say it works as well as Cremo for me in keeping skin irritation at bay. I find this cream works well whether I’m using a cartridge razor or my Norelco rotary. Unlike some creams, it doesn’t clog up my Norelco.The biggest negative to me is that this Wahl cream isn’t creamy or foamy in any way. It is more like an ointment or paste. The feel of it just isn’t as nice as Cremo, and it can even be a little hard to see where you have applied it (unless you are really applying it heavily). With that said, this isn’t the biggest deal as it is more about aesthetics than performance.The scent of this cream is sort of minty and sort of herby. It is OK but nothing to get excited about. I personally prefer unscented creams (like Cremo Sensitive).

Smells pretty good, works as advertised.
This feels more like a skin moisturizer than shaving cream. But it smells good and it does work. I like foaming shaving cream but studies find that it doesn’t work as well as the more gel style consistency shaving gel products like this. I’m a fan of the scent!

Softens beard hair and skin for a closer shave
My husband’s beard hair grows fast, thick, and it’s very coarse. He has given up on trying to use an electric razor and found that a standard razor gives him a faster, much closer shave. That said, his skin is pretty sensitive and we were looking for a shaving cream that won’t irritate his skin.This shave cream by Wahl seems like a good option for him. Wahl is a trusted brand and has been around for decades. The cream really is that…a cream. It comes in a plastic squeeze tube with a convenient flip top lid. It’s a big 6 ounce (170g) sized container which will probably last my husband 3 to 4 months, so the ten dollar price point feels like a good value to me.The cream is an opaque white color and has a consistency similar to hand lotion, only thicker. It has a light menthol scent that is almost undetectable until it’s right under your nose. My husband likes to put in on and let it sit on his beard for 5 minutes or so while he brushes his teeth and lays out his clothes for the day. He said it softens the hair and makes shaving easier that way. It’s got a creamy, viscous texture that doesn’t dry out and the disposable razor just glides over the skin without any pulling or drag. My husband now prefers this cream to the regular foam in a can that he’s been using until now. It leaves his skin baby soft and smooth and I agree that he’s getting a much closer shave, and without any irritation. No bumps, no redness, no nicks and cuts. It’s been very gentle on his sensitive skin, probably because of the high quality ingredients like shea butter and almond oil. It provides a closer more comfortable shave than canned foam.

Not Foamy, Not Slick and Not Unscented, Okay But Not Better Than Other Options
I got this because I was Wahl shaving cream because I occasionally get a barbershop shave and I love the Wahl tub of cream that my barber uses with a brush. So I was curious how this compared to the classic Wahl tub cream and also the creamy tube shaving cream I’ve used for years. This ends up sitting in an odd middle zone for me. Not creamy slick, not foamy at all and not like the Wahl tub stuff. Just sort of barely there in all criteria.Also, the listing says this is unscented, but it’s not, there’s a clear menthol, citrus‑mint scent, and since this is a pretty new listing, that may just be an error that gets corrected. The menthol isn’t something I enjoy even though I know a lot of people like that cooling feel. I find that sometimes it’s reactive against my skin, so I avoid it if possible, so skin compatibility is limited in my view.The texture is smooth but not slick, and shaving performance is okay, but I have to use more than I expected and sometimes go over the same area twice, which never happens with my usual creamy slick tube stuff. It comes out like a gel and turns into a slightly foamy gel, but I would never describe this as foamy. Longevity is just okay because I can’t re‑use the cream the way I can with my standard creamy tube option. This does rinse off cleanly.Value for money is also just okay at about $1.67 per ounce, but the issue is that I need more per shave than I’m used to. I’ll finish the tube, but I don’t plan to reorder because this doesn’t outperform what I normally use.I do appreciate that the tube comes tightly wrapped in cellophane, so there’s no inventory sticker that I have to peel off that leaves a sticky mess on the tube, which I hate. There is also a foil seal on the top of the tube under the cap.

This feels more like a shaving butter than a cream. It does work, but I need to use a lot for my face to feel comfortable and not get burned. For the cost, I don’t feel the difference, and in fact have probably felt smoother and better after using cheaper gels or creams. Especially if you’re using it daily, it’s going to get pricy really quick.
