Real good clippers with pivot motor

Hopefully these continue to perform well. I initially tried the Wahl Multi-Purpose that I got from a large retailer when the pandemic shutdown started. That one worked real well at first, but the detachable blade became loose and wouldn’t stay on properly so I had to return and search for another option. The Wahl Self Cut Pro is a similar size, but with a different motor and a taper lever added.The Multi-Purpose has a rotary motor which is fast and cut on the first pass while the Self Cut Pro has a pivot motor that requires more than one pass to get the same result. Pivot motors are powerful but move the blades slower than a rotary motor, and better than standard magnetic clipper motors. I found that an advantage with the Self Cut Pro because while it required a few passes to cut over one spot, it also allowed blending or correcting mistakes to be easier since you don’t cut all the hair on the first pass. This is my personal preference but may not be what you like. Research clipper motor types and buy a set of clippers based on your preference since the motor is what basically differentiates most clippers.The Self Cut Pro was powerful enough so that did not snag or pull my hair and had no trouble making a clean cut with a few passes. Just understand that it likely won’t cut everything on the first pass and you should be fine. The ergonomics are real good since it is fairly small and it is easy to maneuver when cutting your own hair. Not much vibration and motor is rather quiet compared to other clippers I’ve experienced.The only drawbacks I found were minor in my opinion. The industrial strength cord is long but somewhat awkward. It is thicker than my vacuum cleaner cord so not sure what the reason is for that. The case is not very sturdy, very lightweight plastic. I’m probably going to shift to some other sort of storage container eventually. Otherwise, really good clippers.

I Truly Like Everything About It

It is very satisfying to find a manufacturer who genuinely cares about all aspects of their product. This is my first haircutting kit and I had high expectations. I was not disappointed. To start off with, I am very particular about packaging, and it is evident that Wahl also cares about this. The clipper comes in a sturdy, cleanly branded cardboard box sealed with a Wahl sticker, so you know that it is new. Inside is the well-designed, functional plastic carrying case holding the easy-to-read instructions, the clipper, attachments, cleaning brushes and oil, two combs, and a pair of scissors that work very well. I will continue to keep the clipper and all accessories inside the plastic carrying case that I will put back in the sturdy, rectangular-shaped box after each use to keep everything together and for ease of storage. They advertised this model as being quiet, which is one of the main reasons I selected it. And it is in fact noticeably quiet. I received this product yesterday and we used it today. This was my first ever home haircut and the first time my wife has used a clipper. Its ergonomic design, solid build, and balanced weight clearly prove it is high quality. It was a lot easier to use than either of us thought it would be. And I was very satisfied with the outcome! We errored on the side of caution and decided to use only the #8 attachment and scissors to start with. That is all we needed! Wahl, thank you for taking pride in your products! I highly recommend this Wahl Clipper kit. Extremely high quality at a very reasonable price.

Looks and feels cheap but is actually quite durable

I’ve been cutting my own hair for twentyfive years with Wahl clippers. We have a cow, my wife milks the cow and to make milking easier and cleaner she loves to give the cow a Brazilian…..she likes to sneak my Wahl clippers out to the barn to do it. We’ve had the discussion many times about not using my clippers to shave the cow. I had a previous model which was heavier with a sturdy feel. The guards were hard durable plastic. However, the electric cord was very thin. I bought my wife a small trimmer at Walmart to use on the farm animals but when a neighbor called hysterical about an injured rabbit, my wife snuck my Wahl clippers out again to assist in rabbit surgery. We had to have “the talk” again and I planned on buying the most expensive clippers I could find, paying extra for overnight shipping and having it gift-wrapped….and my wife says I have passive-agressive tendencies….anyway I found these clippers on Amazon and bought them for her and whatever animal she felt like shaving for whatever reason. When the clippers arrived they looked cheap and not very durable but I tried them just to see how well they work. Turns out, the clippers are very light weight, easy to hold and maneuver. Although the guides seem to be brittle plastic, they work very well and are more durable than they look. The cord is heavy duty which is great since the electric cord is usually the first thing to go. Fell in love with these clippers and ended up giving my old ones to my wife. By the way, the rabbit survived and is healing nicely. I won’t say the Wahl clippers saved its life, they’re great but can’t perform miracles. I would definitely recommend these to anyone considering buying a clipper set for your hair……or your cow….or your rabbit, maybe even your dog.

One of the best personal hair clippers on the market

I only purchased these because it happened to be the most economical clipper that came with a lever and the often-omitted 1-1/2 guard. But I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality and performance of it, especially at this price point.The smaller form factor gives you a lot more control and nuance when blending fades on your own head; a bigger clipper will cut more and thus be faster, but increase the chance of a mistake. The blades are sharp and cut close out of the box. The motor has this bassy low-end rumbling sound, but it’s not very loud and not at all annoying. Perhaps most importantly is that it does not get hot to the touch even during long sessions.The downsides? There is only one that I can think of. The wire to plug it in is thick and doesn’t always lend itself to being easy to maneuver; you might have to reposition it at times to get it out of the way — the other side of this is that the machine can draw more power from the wall without heating up the wire or the motor.

I highly recommend this Product for anyone who cit their Own hair at home.

A downgrade in quality from 10 yrs ago – otherwise works!

Bought an MH-10 or MS-10 model for $20 at Walmart in 2007. It lasted up until 2019 when the cord strain relief broke. It was a good solid-feeling chrome unit with some heft and quick smooth operation. Could have replaced the cable but decided to save myself trouble and replace with a new clipper. I usually cut my hair at home.This new self-cut clipper slightly smaller which I like, and with a bit of a curve to help with self-cut ergonomics, but has that light Chinese plasticy feel. It is a lot louder buzz, vibrates, and the height adjustment lever is distinctly cheap and flexible. It almost certainly wouldn’t survive a drop to the floor. The lever rubs on the body when traveling through its range… why did Wahl not address this? The rubber overmold is nice feeling but after a trim it is difficult to wipe the clippings off the rubber. A smooth plastic with some molded smooth bumps would have been better. Without a guard, this clipper will also nick the skin, whereas the older one did not. With a guard installed (they assertively click on), these clippers cut beautifully. Not complaints on its ability to cut hair.Portability is touted as one of its selling points, but oddly, the plastic carry case is much larger than my older larger clipper from Wahl. The case is also of a thinner plastic and just feels floppy. I transferred the contents into the old case and will continue to use until I have time to replace the cable on the old buzzer. A minor suggestion to Wahl would be to include some type of holder for the guards. Why is it considered normal to have more than a dozen loose objects rattling around in the case, if most people only really need to use the same 2 or 3 things each time? Lets get organized!These are made in USA, so I will continue to support Wahl, but would be nice not to see quality degrade, especially as cost is increased.
