Container Is Awful
I had high hopes for the Dr. Mercola Ola Tallow Balm Foot in Peppermint, but it ended up being just okay for me. The biggest issue is the dispenser — it’s awkward to use and makes it hard to get the product out smoothly. Because of that, the balm doesn’t apply as evenly as I’d like. It also takes some effort to work it into the skin because the consistency of the balm is not really very spreadable. It clumps up.I was also expecting a stronger peppermint scent and more of that cooling, tingly feeling you usually get with peppermint foot products. Unfortunately, it’s pretty mild and doesn’t leave my feet feeling refreshed the way I hoped.It’s not a bad product, but it didn’t quite deliver on the peppermint experience or ease of use.

Like a moisturizing push pop, but for your feet!
I love this peppermint tallow balm! It goes on smooth and has a light refreshing peppermint scent. For those unfamiliar with tallow, there is no meat or otherwise unpleasant smell, but just smells clean, moisturizing, and pepperminty. The container is a thicker cardboard that you push up from the bottom. I found that I did have to keep my thumb on the bottom to push it up while rubbing it into my feet, but that wasn’t a problem. I would much rather do that than have yet another hard plastic container that isn’t super great for our earth.The balm is very gentle and makes my skin feel soft and conditioned. It wasn’t oily or anything and did not feel yucky with socks thrown on over my feet after use. I would definitely recommend if you’re looking for a smooth tallow balm.

Softens heels
Dr. Mercola Ola Tallow Balm Foot, Peppermint- This is an easy to use tallow balm that has a pleasant scent. I’ve been using it on the bottoms of my feet before bed to help soften dry skin on my heels. I apply, and then put a socks on so the balm does not get all over and has time to soak in.

Extremely confusing and awful packaging.
First of all, the balm smells HEAVENLY. I would love to use it but unfortunately, the entire balm was somehow in the cap, so I re-capped it, tapped it on the table and now it’s entirely sunken in to the bottom where it belongs and totally unreachable. I need to find some way to de-pot this product into another container, this is a huge letdown.

Excellent Foot Balm for Dry, Tired Feet
The balm is very easy and clean to apply on my feet because it comes in a stick, so I don’t need to use my hands, although I could still use them to massage my feet if I wanted to. I prefer not to. The balm is not so soft that it breaks inside the stick, and not so hard that it’s difficult to apply, the consistency is perfect. When I applied the balm to my feet, I immediately felt them softer, moisturized, and fresh, with a nice, cool, relaxing sensation. My feet were very dry, so the balm was absorbed quickly into my skin within a couple of hours. The peppermint scent is delightful and relaxing. It’s not as strong as other menthol products, but still has a pleasant cooling and refreshing peppermint aroma. When I walked barefoot, I didn’t leave a strong mint smell on the floor, bed, or couch, although this does depend on how much you apply. The first time, when my feet were extremely dry, I applied a lot and had to wear socks so I wouldn’t leave the peppermint scent all over the floor. The next time I applied a thinner layer (since my feet didn’t need as much), and I didn’t leave much residue behind.Regarding relief for tired feet, this does help. In my opinion, it would work even better after soaking the feet and then applying the balm, although I haven’t tried that yet because my feet haven’t been extremely tired lately. The only “con” is that the stick does not raise by rotating the base, but instead by pushing from the bottom. This means that if you push it up too much, you need to push it back down with your hand, foot or something else, which is not very practical.If you want to treat your feet well with a high-quality balm, this is an excellent product. It works very well for me.

Great product, but the dispensing mechanism is poorly thought out
I am torn on my review of this product. The product itself is great, but they way it is housed really cuts down on its functionality and costs it two stars in my opinion. I am 58 and have very dry skin on my feet and ankles, so I like to have a hearty moisturizer to put on my feet before bed, especially in the cold winter months. Here are the pros and one significant con of this one.Pros:- The scent is delightful. It has a peppermint scent that is nice and light, not at all overwhelming, perfumy, or fake smelling. I am sensitive to fragrances, and very strong, fake, or flowery ones can trigger migraines, so I was a bit hesitant to order this one, but I was VERY pleasantly surprised by the quality of this fragrance.- It is rich and very emollient. It feels well made and effective. It goes on a bit goopy/sticky, which is to be expected with a tallow-based balm. I like to apply it and then put on a light pair of cotton socks to protect my sheets and keep myself from slipping if I have to walk anywhere after putting it on. In the morning, my feet feel much softer than they do without it.- The peppermint oil (or whatever they use to add the peppermint feel to it) adds a bit of a refreshing feel to the experience and really wakes up or refreshes tired feet. I put it on at bedtime and go to sleep feeling fresh and minty. If you were to put it on after a hard day of work on your feet, I would imagine it would definitely feel reviving to your tired feet.The con:- The primary con is the housing that it comes in. It is in a cardboard tube that you push up from the bottom. Think of one of those ice cream push pops from your childhood. While that makes it easy to push the balm up and down, there is nothing holding it up once you push it up. It is also pretty thick and takes a fair degree of pressure to apply, so I find that I push it up, and then when I go to rub it on my foot, the pressure from my foot basically pushes it back down into the tube. It’s like using a deodorant stick if it didn’t secure up in place. So to get it to stay up while I apply it, I basically have to keep pushing against the push-up platform with my finger inside the housing tube while applying it, which is awkward at best. I also have arthritis in my fingers, so it is actually painful for me to have to push against it while applying. For others without arthritis, it wouldn’t likely hurt, but it would still be awkward. If it were in a sleeve like deodorant where you can crank a dial to push up more product, and then the product stays put, it would be WAY better for application.

I’ve never loved a foot balm…but I have found my my love now.
I was a little hesitant to order this because of the tallow, although I love tallow because it has wonderful benefits for the skin. I usually cannot stand the smell of tallow. I can usually always still smell it even with the essential oils in it. Surprisingly this one is very well hidden with the peppermint. It is a very enjoyable scent of fresh peppermint without being overpowering. Love the way this glides on and I don’t have to use my hands to apply it. I’ll occasionally get like a little chunk off of it onto my foot but I just take the stick and use that to rub it into my foot. It feels like you’re using a giant minty lip balm for your foot. It’s so soothing and relaxing to apply, when I’m done I slip on some cozy socks and head to bed. I will say my toddler got a hold of the foot balm and did mess up my packaging a little bit, so it’s a little more difficult to get the lid on now. I wish the cardboard wasn’t so easily damaged from that but I’m making it work! Before my toddler got ahold of it I actually didn’t mind the container that it comes in. It reminds me of a push pop easy to use. It’s a little more expensive than I would normally pay for a foot bomb, but I honestly love it so much that I do plan on repurchasing this when I run out it’s so soothing. It feels so nice and moisturizing so, to me it’s worth it. Excellent product.
